    That it protects you from the software that they use to gather data on you automatically but if they suspect you it won't protect you from your ISP handing over information on your downloading habits.

    No, the simplest thing to do is just keep all your music in a non-shared folder. I was just making the point that since it is illegal and there is an electronic audit trail there will always be a way they can get you if they really want to.

    You can download and not share and therefore not upload. No. I think they are after people who share lots of files (uploaders) to cut the supply. A bit like targetting the suppliers of drugs rather than the dealers or addicts.

    Downloading is getting tracks off other people. Uploading is allowing other people to get them off you.

    Spin I would imagine. They are underestimating and we are overestimating. With regards the first point they have taken a legal course of action in naming the defendants. Consequently there is a procedure to follow for those named. Their justification makes no odds.
