The dog was his favourite and aging too, went to his favourote hide out, the closet, to die.
Gene, at 95, very upset at this and the old ticker gave out.
Wife so distraught at losing both that she took pills to join them.
Case closed.
RIP to all of them.

Always Lex Luthor to me.

But also liked Crimson Tide, and The Firm (think he was in a few Grisham adaptations IIRC).

The French Connection in my top 5 favourite films, and I can watch it time and again very happily.

After reading a Peter Bradshaw (Guardian) article about him yesterday, it was vaunting some of his films I don’t actually know. What a body of top, top work.

Very, very sad.

BUT.

Holy moly, he was the f***ing business. She.must have been a very special person to have loved and cared for him at the end. To the end.

My mum dedicated 10+ of the best years off her life to tending my grandmother Rosie as she inexorably, slowly, drifted away.

if I hadn't heard.from my.mum for a few weeks I wouldn't have thought to get in touch to check in on her, maybe after a month or so I would.

Stay I touch with the carers folks.

Let them.know how much you admire.them

It would appear that Hackman's wife died first, from hantavirus, with Hackman then being alive for up to a week before he perished from heart disease (with severe signs of Alzheimer's):-

I’m still a little unclear. Was he alone in the house with her body for a week? And what about the dog?

Did you read the article in the tweet? I have no other information.

In case you didn't - yes, he is believed to have been alive for one week after his wife died. As for the dog - who knows? Died of starvation if it was no longer being fed? Died of heartbreak? Maybe the dog also got hantavirus?

Looks like he was. But there is even a suggestion he wasn't aware of her death. Such was his dementia. Awful when folk go this way.

Actually, I've just re-looked at the article and it has been updated with further information. Dogs do not die of hantavirus; there will be a necropsy performed on the animal.

I appreciate you may be neurodivergent, so I’m going to give you a little latitude as always. Your posts are probably unintentionally hostile, and I know that people on the autism spectrum struggle with maintaining conversations.

But just to clarify, although I replied to your post with a question, it was done so to further the conversation and discussion about this sad situation, not as a direct questioning of your knowledge about the death of Gene Hackman, his wife and his dog.

I will try and be more clear in future posts to you.

According to the article the dog that died was crated, so presumably no access to food or water. The other two dogs were running free, so could fend for themselves.
