My mum dedicated 10+ of the best years off her life to tending my grandmother Rosie as she inexorably, slowly, drifted away.
if I hadn't heard.from my.mum for a few weeks I wouldn't have thought to get in touch to check in on her, maybe after a month or so I would.
Stay I touch with the carers folks.
Let them.know how much you admire.them
Respects to your mother.
That may well have been even more tough in this day and age and, in my view, you make a valid point.
Firstly, caring for our elderly, I think is possibly becoming a diminishing responsibility. Whether that is seen from a government level or personal / family level?
One expects the other to 'perform'.
The pressures to pay bills and mortgages doesn't help. This is not aimed at any particular government, and certainly experiences expressed on NSC would contradict any negative ability to care for loved ones.
It's just a personal realisation and apprehension of the way things have been going for a number of years. Support, time and care given generally, has diminished to the detriment of our elderly.
It's not long ago they just tried to kill them off.
