Got to agree that if you want quality players you have to pay.
Getting the odd out of contract player now and again is all part of building a squad, but we need some quality players who will be at the club for 2 or 3 seasons to come.
Lets hope McGhee has some targets in mind and things develop...
Good to see a fee has been agreed and it is small. As much as we need Blaney I didn't want to see a huge amount of money spent on him, leaving nothing left for the rest of the team strengthening.
What I find a bit strange is that now we have a bit of money to spend, we still seem to be scrimping around looking for out of contract players.
I know CKR was bought with the coca cola money, but I would have hoped that Mcghee would have had a few other transfer targets for this summer...
Swansea must be laughing their nuts off at that price. Thats the trouble with these tribunals sometimes you win (Gareth Barry £1million) and sometimes you lose (John Robinson £75K).
The one that will piss me off is if Leeds get a bargin price because they deserve to be stitched up the way they...
Hope the loan deal does not have some clause like they can buy him for £25K at the end of the season. If there is you just know he will score 30+ goals and we will look stupid for letting him go for next to nothing.
I still think we could get decent money for him because...
He is young and been with club since a kid.
Regular U21 International.
Left footed.
Played quite a few first team games for his age.
Our only "against" was that he was out of contract, but I reckon £1million+ could be on the cards...
McGhee wanted to sign him, and bought him back for a second trial, but at the end of the day we could only afford one player from the three and that was Molango.
Why not wait till the new year when the extra 2000 seats are built. If we play a team like Celtic we would easily fill a 9000 capacity Withdean with Celtic supporters alone!
Good news I think. If he scores loads of goals for Lincoln we could get a bit of money for him or bring him back. If he fails totally then we can pay him off his final year of contract and wave him goodbye.
Prehaps in a medical first we could arrange to Gary Harts right foot transplanted onto his left leg therefore making the first designer left back :glare:Could it be done for the start of the season?
We really need someone who can take control at the back, organise, inspire, and wear the shirt with pride. If not Cullip then someone in the same style as him please. At the moment our defenders just seem to drift about at times, and marking is terrible particulary at set peices.
Having a...
I just hope he does well and doesn't get banished to the reserves after a couple of games. He won't be fully match fit for a while so I hope people judge him on his potential rather than slag him off straight away. Give him a chance to adapt and get fit first!
McGhee says on seagulls world that he is after a left back, and a winger. I think a decent central midfielder who can distribute the ball well and score a few goals is a must to cover for Chippy. I would imagine that to bring quality players in for these positions would require us to spend some...
Could be Taggart. I think he signed a 1 year contact with Stoke last summer so I guess he may now be out of contract?
I would love it to be Dion Dublin cos at least it would be a kind of a replacement for Virgo in that he could play up front or in defence. Very unlikely though!
I think with Dodds and Butters we will have enough experience in central defence.
I'd rather invest some money in a young lower league defender who is ambitious and keen & who can develop into a decent centre back for the future, rather than top up some old blokes pension fund.
I would hope there would be a few other new trialists against Oxford as well. Now we have a bit of money and the new season fast approaching agents should be banging on the door hoping to get there players a contract with us.
