Tommy doesn't know this, but that young man needs ME!
If a young man called Matthew reads this, please don't give me any abuse, your mother is perfectly capable of getting abuse from everyone else, and yes, your mother does have a life of her own!
And afterall, she needed to go somewhere on her deployment. We don't spend billions on these things and then let them sail around home waters, they need to do what they are supposed to so. This deployment will have been planned years ago, and it's not that we've got many other ships left!
Forgot to say, our presence their also gives employment opportunities to residents of St Helena and Ascension Island, who make up the majority of the contract workers on the Islands. Most are employed by British companies. There is very little direct employment by the British Government of locals.
Agreed, it costs a great deal of money to maintain a presence there. However, having been there, it is without doubt that 99.99% of the Falkland Islanders want to remain British. Therefore the british Government will support the Islanders. Our presence has also benefited the Islanders immensley...
I lived Behind Allen West, now Mithras House, in about 1966 and can remember everyone coming out at lunchtime. I can also remember the soldiers on the gate at Preston Barracks and being very scared of them. Wasn't so scared about 15 years after that when I went to work there!
The Falkland Islanders will not want to be independent of Britain as they could not afford to defend themselves. They are fiercly loyal to Britain and are happy for us to be there is it brings in a great deal of revenue.

Like everyone else, my daughter has had to wait 14 long years for her trip to the Amex, but she loved it. She says that next time she'd like a cider before kick off.

20 Years spent working in Mortgage securities, giving rise to an extensive knowledge of the legal side of buying and owning property, including death & divorce situations.
3 years spent working with Royal Marines; extensive knowledge of how to drink naked
I am surrounded by silly taches! It seems that all of the 2000 squadies I am surrounded by are trying to grow them, most them only loo about 12 so they all look ridiculous. I have however voluntered to be a judge to test for the 'tache most likey to tickle'
Quite, which is why it took the club 3 months to provide me with a seat to sit on in the disabled section instead of the wheelchair they 'assumed I must use'
Having lived there for 20 years I will confirm that it is a deprived area, although many people don't want to work. I would say a turnout of 800 is quite good
I've not yet made it to the Amex, but my experience of going to the disabled loo at other grounds is quite good. If I can I will always try and go to the ladies, but if this involves queing (when I am already stiff from sitting down) then I would use the disabled loo. However, most of the time...
