No new information just a view I have held for many years and believe is the most likely outcome with a 12,000 all seater at Withdean.

Not viable now but I believe that the original suggestion of Beeding Cement Works was the most logical at that time, 1997 but as has been said it is now complely out of the question.

I think, and have said, we should have joined forces with Tesco and asked them (like Everton have done) where they wanted a new superstore and us to have a ground and rather than employ MP let them do the planning and we would have been playing a in a new stadium by now. Have they ever failed to gain permission eventually for a new site.

Withdean has been an eyesore and white elephant ever since it was opened in 1930s and I believe that now there is a possibility that the council could earn some money out of owning it and would secretly love BHA to stay there.

This is not unknown fact just a personal view of the situation as it exists today.

Every aspect of that post has shown your complete and utter misunderstanding - no, ignorance - of the planning process. I could take it apart bit by bit, but I'm not going to because it has already been done before, yet you still persist with your feeble fantasies.

Obviously BG is just speculating on waht could happen if falmer is refused, and re-developing Withdean is the obvious answer. I don't care what anyone says about not having a plan B, if Falmer is refused then we will be forced to make a plan b, otherwise what's the alternative, just give up? I (and you I'm sure, and thousands of others) didn't fight to save this club just to give up and let the club die.

He wasn't 'speculating'. He genuinely believes Falmer will be refused (read his post again) despite having no evidence to the contrary. As for Withdean becoming a 12,000 stadium, clearly Brighton & Hove City Council's opinion, and the Planning Inspector's report count for nothing to him. As for the Tesco issue - totally and utterly irrelevant.

Lewes District Council have offered no contrary evidence for Falmer, at least none that the government accept ("their points have no basis in law" - Treasury Solicitor), combined with the fact that Ruth Kelly's office are not happy with Lewes' behaviour all points to the fact the Falmer will almost certainly be approved again.

I take relief in the fact that, as a general rule, anything that 3gulls, Kestrel, Normandy Seagull et al say, I disagree with fundamentally because their points of view come from a position of breath-taking stupidity. Others I know are purely wind-up merchants, but those three (although there are others, of course) never even found the plot in the first place in order that they could lose it.

Now, if they said Wilkins was great, and Dick Knight was their hero, then I'd be concerned.

Brian, if you think we will have a 12,000 all seater at Withdean, how do you overcome the fundamental planning failure that you cannot allow a flow of more than 10,000 through the railway tunnel?

Do you ignore it and then when someone dies because of the crush just shrug your shoulders?

We have to keep reapplying for planning permission at Withdean. If Falmer is turned down (which it won't be) and Labour are not in overall control of Brighton & Hove council (which is very likely) then we won't get that planning permission.

Knight was prepared to sanction a £100,000 bid for two strikers in the off season (Barnet and Orient).....plus wage, sign-on fee, goal bonuses, etc, etc

I cannot believe that Elder cost more than £5-10k!

And I don't think we've spent a big wedge on anyone since the summer (Wing's wages wouldn't have been brilliant)

So I for one will be a bit peeved if we don't go out and do some buisness in the transfer window....unless the money has been retracted

You are wrong.

On the major point ... We are closer to getting Falmer than you recognise.

The squad we have (and its leadership) is enough to allow the club to develop as a cost-effective force in English football, given time.

With no-one to bankroll an alternative strategy on the field, by buying in tried and tested superstars, we have to grow our own. The impatience of some fans is understandable, but the solution isn't to sack the board.

Nor is it to shoot yourself.

You say we are nearer to getting Falmer than people think. Well that would be great if Falmer was anything other than the cheap option - what are the chances of it ever being big enough for Premiership football?

As a matter of interest, do you know how much money has been taken out of the Club over the last few years to repay loans to directors (including former ones)? As the transfer monies, reduced playing budgets, windfall from Cardiff, Spurs, and now WHU never appear to get beck into the Club?

How much has the pathetic agreement by the Board to "park and ride" at Withdean cost us over the years. There is no way that the likes of Ken Bates, AlFeyad, or Ridsdale et al would ever have accepted such a stupid way of getting to a football match!

They wouldn't. They would have walked away and found an easier club to preside over. Dick Knight is a fan and was prepared to step in when no-one else would.

so basically the total outcome of knights reign upto now is;
we are 1 division higher than when he took over, and we now play in brighton instead of gillingham, where we got crowds of around 2000. so our gates have actually improved aswell.

Unfortunately, both the division we play in and the size of home crowds are in real danger of being reversed within the next 12 months! Personally, I was much happier to go to Gillingham than Withdean - the atmosphere in the Rainham End was much better than the South Stand - and i never even got soaked once there!

No stupid, but offering attractive investment deals to potential investors would be a good start? Or perhaps the directors and determined not to see a dilution of their own stakes in the Club?
