If she feels safer going to women's games that her prerogative, I just don't happen to fully agree with some of those comments. I understand there are aspects of the men's game that are unwelcoming to women. I do think there are campaigns to make women feel safer at football games, and those should be supported. I think that people focus on football, and from experience I find the football crowd to be as bad as people at a gig/rugby etc, and I feel men's football gets a worse rep in that sense.
So basically, after all that, you agree with her then?

I’m with Allan.

When are all these WOKIES going to stop pretending they’re interested in women’s football?

Not entirely.
Sorry, I was being a bit flippant, although your position did soften remarkably over the course of a few posts! I actually totally agree with what I think is your main gripe, that football fans are still unfairly tarred by many with the hooligan brush, even though in general it is now a very family friendly day out.

But I am also aware that I say that as a straight white man approaching middle age - other demographics clearly don't share that view and the way to change their minds is not to tell them they are talking total bollox if they dare to offer a different view.

Yes, I was also a bit too flippant. Like I said 'Complete Bollocks' was very unfair, but I do think the CONSTANT comparison of the two games is ultimately damaging for the women's game and probably the men's game as well. We don't need to compare them constantly they have their own merits.

Absolutely

The thing that mainly puts me off TS is the obsession with gambling and chronic boozing.
If the 70s did radio stations, they'd be TalkSport. It's really gone downhill of late in my opinion, good broadcasters slowly shunted off and replaced by mouthy shock jocks like Jamie O'Hara. Now it's unlistenable. I can honestly say that every time I think "I've got 10 mins to spare, I'll pop on TalkSport" it's ALWAYS adverts, without fail.

Yep

There's some stuff I like listening to. Remember a bit when Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend were talking for AGES about creedence Clearwater revival. That's the kind of stuff I like, rambling anecdotes told with humour and humility

There's too much of, as you mention, the like of O'Hara desperately looking for that short viral clip of them saying something "controversial" with relentless advertising interjected amongst it. Awful

Is he a 'dinosaur'? Yeah, almost certainly. Should he be kicked off TalkSport? Not if TalkSport wants to anger a certain section of its listeners/viewers.

Say what you like about the guy (personally I think he's a monumental bellend), but loads of 'lads' love him and his 'style'. And, to the suits in charge of the News UK empire, that's worth keeping him around because he'll bring in revenue.

Is this another example of those that preach tolerance are the least tolerant of all? Mr Brazil has an opinion, widely supported, but because it's not fashionable then all the name calling and labels begin.

When people think of Man U they think of the men’s first team, not the women, U21s, U18s, academy, Foundation, or any other teams they operate.
That is entirely accurate, but it isn't the point.

His is implying that his radio programme shouldn't be talking about anything other than ManU's men's first eleven.

Exactly the same mentality has reduced discussion of Brighton to literally nothing on occasions when we have played them.
Even on MOTD

Broadcasters should nod in the direction of all, not denigrate 'lesser' teams.

Anyway, the league is all about Liverpool and Forest and the Arse this season.
Nobody wants to hear about failure shite like the ManU men's side.
So he should shut the f*** up about them.
The fat red-faced ****.

(Edited for colourific purposes. Ahem.)

A lot of hypocrisy in this thread.

He said: “'With the greatest respect, when you talk about Manchester United. Women’s football is getting more important now but when you talk about Manchester United, this is the men’s we’re talking about, the Premier League when we’re talking about mission impossible, not the women’s.'”

 seems right to me.

He’s saying there’s a place for women’s football and followers of that sport. He’s also saying Manchester United men’s first team are the draw (or loss in this case  ) which is simply the truth.

So he might be a dinosaur, a bore, and frankly while I value his opinions on football generally as much as the average pub bore or NSC’er, what he’s said is correct.

As for the hypocrisy; imagine we were relegated or in Manchester United’s position based on their expectations and massive debt, crumbling ground, no signs of hope. And then we were told to be grateful that our women’s team were doing well.

A women’s team that a very small percentage of Albion men’s fans follow at all, let alone attend games.

I think a lot of the people here being dismissive and obnoxious would be singing a very different tune.

I haven’t heard what he said. My comments were based on listening to him previously.

I have no time for him. But I actually clicked the link and read the quote, and posted it because I am sure 99% of repliers didn’t.

He’s right. Not much more to say really.

I think my reaction to your scenario would be something song the lines of 'yeah maybe'.

But then I'm not a loud mouth controversial radio host who is paid to trigger people and create publicity.

I haven't read the link but what is quoted on here is right. my question is though did it need to be said and was it an appropriate response in the context of the conversation?
