To be fair to Jack. I did a survey a year or so ago, with a couple of postgraduates on womens experiences in football. It was questions around how I got into it etc but they also asked about who I went with on match days, if I would go myself (I have, many times) and if I felt safe.

I’ve always felt safe at the football. I’ve gone to games in England, Scotland, I was across in Germany at the Euros. I go with friends, I used to go with my Dad, but I’ve also gone on my own, I’ve never not felt safe at games.

They had said during the interview, that actually all the responses they’d had so far largely mirrored what I had said and that generally women had pretty positive experiences at games. In fact if I can remember their names I’ll try and find their thesis if it’s been published yet, because I was interested in reading the results.
I could, but won't name three separate incidents where women, have been hurt or abused at our games, two by our own fans That's just me, and my known friends.
I'm sure I'm not the only one.

He's an allowed an opinion, maybe his delivery is a bit dismissive and rude but it's a debate. It's a shame these days that people have to be afraid to express themselves if it goes against what is considered the 'correct' way to think.

Personally, even though I think woman's football is rubbish, I see it brings joy to a few people and if tony bloom thinks it's worthwhile for Brighton I'm all for it.
It wasn't a debate. It was an article about Manchester United's club strategy. IF he is a radio presenter and wasn't interested in part of it he should just have kept quiet and let it pass. He had the air of someone who had been to Wetherspoons for a liquid breakfast.

No-one s disputing that women's football is not a strong as men's or as well supported. But that's not relevant. Yet it's all some folk keep banging on about to bash it with. So the real debate is, why ?

I have it in my head that women played the first official football match in the 1800's, before men, but society wasn't impressed by that sort of thing. At least then society had the excuse of being dinosaurs. Brazi is a product of a Wetherspoons drain pipe where a build up of kitchen grease, discarded lager dregs, wet wipes, condoms and discarded out of date beef mince formed a reincarnation of Alan Brazil who emerged from the Thames Water sewage system and walked into a radio station.

The pleasing reality is that Man U fans may need to look toward the WSL if they want to sing 'Glory, glory Man United' in the near future.
Except that......Man Utd are the one club who have pushed their womens side backwards. They kicked the womens team out of their facilities at the Carrington training ground so the mens team could use them and have stuck the women in portakabins.

Jim Ratcliffe - putting the MAN back into Manchester United.

These days if you say you don’t watch women’s football you get arrested and thrown in jail

i am very inert on ladies footbal - might watch might not

but, how come i cannot stop the notifications from the club - it seems that if you click fo media updates (emails etc) you get both women & mens - there does not seem to be and option for JUST mens team news

sort of forced engagement

In 1921 a woman's match attracted crowds of 53,000 but the dinosaurs at the FA thought football wasn't a seemly thing for women to do, so the FA banned women, in 1921, from playing in any of their associated stadia. The ban lasted for 50 years.

Yeah he is. Women's football is massively growing, and in demographics of young people completely different to what current men's football fans are in. Only need to see arsenals success in attendances. Ultimately its a few years behind, but if you aren't properly investing in the women's game you will be left behind as a football club. Like it or not women's football is bringing new people into the game that have never shown an interest. The quality doesn't matter if you have nothing to compare it to.

Why would you be left behind as a football club?

Money? New fans? Wider audience on the world stage?

Chances are if you supported Brighton and Hove mens side you will follow the female sides, so I am skeptical over bringing in many new fans, the WSL attendances outside of games they play at the men's stadium show this.

It's a nice thing to have for sure, but it's not going to damage the club if you don't.

New fans, we haven't seen it here at Brighton YET. Arsenal are the ones to look at here, the attendances are only going up, across the league, the future is women's football. Like I said it's attracting new young fans who will never be interested in men's football, huge demographics that are untapped. People who I know who never had any interest in football, are getting more and more interested in the Women's game, it needs years to develop, but its coming whether people like it or not. That's why I'm bored of the comparison of the two, the audience they are building is not from the men's game, albeit there is a large crossover. If you are a fan of the men's game, then the quality is not going to be the same, and the atmosphere very different, but like any sport, it has its audience. The more popular it gets the more people will invest, I can guarantee in 20, 30 years if you haven't got a functional women's setup you are going to be left behind. Its not a flash in the pan it will get more popular.

To be fair, I never said, it NEVER happens, just from my experience, as someone who has been to football with women to most games, I've never come across any trouble, but of course that is a different experience for different people.

Which is what I said originally to combat your 'complete bollocks'. Also, the fact that you are with them, helps to prevent trouble.

Now, think about a woman with a couple of kids, to look after.
