Yes.

Im also very sure that most people who smoke in thier cars, will have the window open. Very little smoke ever stays in the car.

Wrong, as a smoker you don't notice it, When my wife uses my car and smokes a single fag in it you notice for days afterwards.

This off of BBC news website
"Smoking should be banned in all cars as well as in public places where young people congregate, doctors are urging.
The Royal College of Physicians wants England's imminent review of anti-smoking laws to consider such measures to protect the young".

So it would appear to be a suggestion by someone other than the government. I don't think anyone from the government has advocated this so I would imagine this is not another example of Browns nanny state or the Orwellian labour party wanting to rule our lives or anything of the sort. So calm down people and save your ire for something real.[/QUOTE]

Fourth bloody page before someone points out that this is, once again, US anti government spin. All you muppets who just read his first post and can't be arsed to check the facts deserve everything you get.

Personally, I couldn't give a f*** if anyone wants to smoke. The only proviso is that they do it on their own or amongst other smokers and that it in no way infringes on others who don't want to smoke. If you want to the increase the risk of dying of cancer then thats' your choice. Personally, having watched that at close hand, it is something I chose to try and avoid.

Traditionally, smokers couldn't give a flying f*** about others and would light up when and where they pleased. Restaurants, cinemar, in cars in other peoples homes. Now the boot is on the other foot they don't like it. If you listen to the debates, you would even hear that the chairman of Forest (not the club) even agrees that smokers should not light up in cars if there are children, irrespective of any token gesture of opening a window.

All this crap about pubs closing, it's about supply and demand. You never hear about the opening of new bars etc. Look at Haywards Heath, it used to have about 7/8 pubs. It now has about that many bars in the Broadway. So you don't like them. Tough. Anyway, the best way to protect pubs, and probably reduce underage drinking, is to reduce the amount the supermarkets sell at loss leader prices.

Still, US has had his anti labour rant now perhaps we can all get back to the real world.

Why 'excpecially' with kids in the car? Are their lives more valuable than somebody who 22 years old?

Isnt it obvious...ban it for definate if there are children in the car.

If there arent any children in the car then maybe maybe...allow it still as an adult can ask someone not to smoke etc.

Have you got children ? i for one remember growing up and travelling in a car where my dad smoked..and it was bloody horrible, i hated those journeys.

I travelled in car recently when the driver was smoking, even with the window down it was a horrible half hour...if i could have got to my destination in time another way i would have got out and done so.

I think the saddest thing about this country is that 43% of people actually think this should be made law. As Icy said god help us all. A nation of health freaks and people who want all risk to be taken out of life and as such are usually notoriously boring. As I often said " I tend to find the most interesting people in life, smoke, drink, gamble, fornicate and have many vices ".

Have to agree with the above. It is extraordinary that some of the posters on NSC make the site look like a drug dealers forum/appreciation society, whilst at the same time want to virtually outlaw fags!!!
P.S.I am a non smoker!

To be honest, the way these governmental advisory bodies carry on I'm amazed any of us made it past our 12th birthdays.

Anyone who thinks this is not instigated by the Labour government is not living in the real world.
Then I'm one who's not living in the real world by your measure. The Royal College of Physicians and the BMA have for years been trying to get all sorts of things banned on health grounds, including boxing. Just because they're calling for it doesn't mean that (a) the government will adopt it as a policy or (b) any MP will even propose it for legislation.

When a major political party - or even the government of the day - actually propose a bill with this in it will I even give it any serious thought. until then it's just a bunch of GPs having a moan-up.

I'm about as anti Labour as you can get but even I wouldn't necessarily pin this one on Gordon and his mates.

As a non smoker, I would certainly be in favour of the ban, anything that raises our environmental quality is fine with me

:dunce:

Perhaps if you had a limb amputated you would live to tell the tale but I suspect given the choice you would prefer to have all four still attached and working. So does it make any difference if the damage is being done internally?

You seem to pigeonhole together everybody who agrees with the principle as if we are all potheads. I agree with a ban in cars when there are children in the car but I don't do drugs, other than alcohol. And before you bang on about that, I don't become aggresive when under the influence unlike plenty of morons that do.

Another dumb quote. See below.

Sorry, that sort of honesty isn't welcome here.
