Forest Green didn't! They did at first, but they quickly went off him - too many mistakes and he was dropped - with full approval of the FGR fans. I think the problem then was that he was a big lad, very confident, and consequently came for balls he just couldn't quite get to and conceded too many pens.
If he can keep the confidence - and improve the judgement, which it looks like he has - he could have a decent future. Wouldn't surprise me if he kept the jersey for a while.

You are right about FGR, and this is exactly Why young players Should go on loan and play a load of games. See also, White. It’s where I believe we are going wrong with ConnollyS development, although others disagree,
I would 100% start Sanchez against Burnley.
He has a confidence and physical presence, that we’ve lacked.
The decision to drop Ryan also gave me a rediscovered respect for Potter.
I understand the dropping of Ryan.
Personally I saw a few things about Sanchez that are a bit of a worry , he got rooted to his line on a couple of crosses . He looked very shakey with the ball at his feet and mostly opted to go long.
Didn't cost us though , hoping will settle down further.

Staying on his line - perhaps over-compensating for his earlier habit of coming out too far, too often and conceding penalties - and as for going long, if he can pass it accurately for 30-40 yards, I'd far rather we did our fannying around at the back 40 yards from goal instead of 5-10 yards!

I think you're right about Connolly but there's no sense in loaning him to a Championship club after he's played a season in the Premier League. He ought to go to a Bundesliga club where he could play at the top level regularly.

The advantage of having him at a (top) champ club is he would get plenty of the ball and lots of goal scoring chances.
From what I understand - Connolly has refused to go out on loan. He thinks he is good enough to be playing in the Premier League now.
If I am honest, the worst thing that could have happened to him was that Spurs game. And the fact the club have been unable to recruit strikers

I heard he didn’t so much refuse, as to convince Potter he was ready now.
Some on NSC passionately disagree, but I think not having six months banging them in at a lower level was a big mistake for him and the club. It’s not too late to put it right.
Yep - but I also know someone that deals with Connolly personally outside of the club and he is an extremely confident individual. You can't force him to go out on loan

Confidence is lovely , but in his world you need goals And at pro level hes not scored many

Worth bearing in mind that there were a lot of clubs interested in Connolly before he signed his previous contract, including Hoffenheim who were very strongly linked.
Can easily see him saying he would only sign a contract if he is considered a first team player vs going out on loan.

What's the downside in loaning Connolly out for 6 months to the Championship? Hopefully he scores a few goals, proves himself a little bit and comes back with more experience. Personally, I think he's been poor in the majority of his performances but the level of expectation is much lower because of his age and inexperience.

Aaron Connolly has somehow become the topic of a thread about Maty Ryan!
To be clear, I think Ryan was very good in his first season, slightly less good in the second and has continued the downward trend in the third and now the start of the fourth.
Aaron Connolly is a 1 in 3 player, 2 poor games for every 1 game where you can make an argument he was good. He scored in two games last season, which is poor given how many he played. I know a lot of people think that work rate is enough, but I don't. Work rate is a minimum standard, actually contributing something is a higher standard and not one he really meets.

I can't think of many poor games from Connolly. I agree that ideally he would have scored more goals but as he has said in interviews, he wants to play as the central striker rather than out wide.

Apart from potentially upsetting the player, his development stifling at a club that don't utilise him correctly & the fact it would leave us with an injury prone Welbeck & a kid from the Swiss second division I can't see any potential downsides.
