Apart from potentially upsetting the player, his development stifling at a club that don't utilise him correctly & the fact it would leave us with an injury prone Welbeck & a kid from the Swiss second division I can't see any potential downsides.

Well, we're also "not utilising him correctly" either. He's not playing in the team. Maupay is dropped and Connolly isn't even making the squad for the matchday so it's not like he's the preferred choice here at the moment.

Would Ben White have been as good if he hadn't had his year at Leeds? Personally, I think Connolly would benefit from a spell in the Championship. Hopefully knock in a few goals and round out his game a bit more so he's ready to come back and play regularly for us. Alternatively, if Potter takes us down then he'll be another player with recent Championship experience to step straight in.

It would leave us a bit short of options up front, but Potter's as likely to use a midfielder there anyway so what's the loss?

Anyway, Goalkeeping ...

I'm calling a Maty Ryan recall on Friday. Sanchez on bench.

You are right about FGR, and this is exactly Why young players Should go on loan and play a load of games. See also, White. It’s where I believe we are going wrong with ConnollyS development, although others disagree,
I would 100% start Sanchez against Burnley.
He has a confidence and physical presence, that we’ve lacked.
The decision to drop Ryan also gave me a rediscovered respect for Potter.

Owen was saying exactly this on TV last night - that U23's football is basically glorified kids football, young players need to be playing against experienced men, even if at a much lower level (he was speaking in the context of Rhys WIlliams who went from Liverpool to Kidderminster on loan to get some proper game time)

Upsetting the player...Sound like somethings bugging him anyway. And bedsides, the club is worth more than to work around the ego of an unproven talent. We are not talking about Ronaldo here.
Stifling at a club that don’t utilise him properly.....the idea would be to send him to a club that would utilise him well. It would be part of the deal that he would get minutes playing upfront. Could work perfectly for all sides, if he came back a more effective player.
Leaving us short upfront.......a loan deal wouldn’t happen until the window. During which we would need to find a replacement.

Three starts and two sub appearances in seven games. You are wrong (as usual).

It's just crossed my mind . . . Maybe Ryan hasn't been dropped, its just the grass got a bit longer and you can't see him.

You may just have a point.....

Well, thank you - but he was not in the 18 man squad at Tottenham having not played any part against West Brom. 0 minutes in the last two games with Welbeck signed and naturally ahead of him. I'm comfortable that my characterisation was correct.

A nice bit of South London
Aaron Connolly has somehow become the topic of a thread about Maty Ryan!

To be clear, I think Ryan was very good in his first season, slightly less good in the second and has continued the downward trend in the third and now the start of the fourth.

Aaron Connolly is a 1 in 3 player, 2 poor games for every 1 game where you can make an argument he was good. He scored in two games last season, which is poor given how many he played. I know a lot of people think that work rate is enough, but I don't. Work rate is a minimum standard, actually contributing something is a higher standard and not one he really meets.

Anyone else heard this:

Apparently Maupay, Connelly and Ryan involved in full blown training ground punch up.

Broken up by Bruno who got a bloody nose in the process... 🥊

Nope and hasn’t GP said it kicked off after the West Brom game? Which I find hilarious as obviously the players thought they should of won and some on here making excuses for a draw.

He better not be back in the side. We didn’t concede from a set play, so want to see how he fares with burnley bombarding the box

I'm with you here. Dirty Sanchez did nothing wrong, deserves another game, make Ryan work to regain his place . . . we don't knowe if his breach of the NDP was as bad or worse than Maupays

Despite being #TeamRyan I'm also thinking Sanchez tomorrow.

I think he's going to need to do 'something' to keep the shirt beyond that, if he does then he's away.
If not, then it'll be a settled back 3/4/5, Inc Ryan, for the rest of the season.

I'm thinking Sanchez also. Potter will want to not drop him unduly, for no real reason. Tho if things turn, er, TORRID v Burnley then expect to see Ryan back in for the Villa game
