Racist chanting

I know a few Luton fans and they now come to expect a few 'choice' chants from the away end at Kenilworth Road the same as we have now accepted where-ever we go brighton fans sexuality will be questioned. Not excusing or condoning racist chanting but it seems a mountain is being made of a mole hill a few idiots who'd had too much to drink, these goons who sing racist songs do it for attention and by devoting a long thread to them is only going to encourage it again.

Most of the people who think the chants were "funny" seem to come from the "two wrongs make a right" school of thinking.

Some of the responses to the homophobic chants are quite good e.g."You're too ugly to be gay" which implies that there's actually nothing wrong with being gay, and turns the insult back on the other fans.

The racist responses just make us look a bunch of ignorant twats like them.

As for the idea that it's all banter.. calling someone a big nose, or a ginger twat, or a fat b*stard probably just about count as a laugh. Those insults don't look down on a person's entire cultural background -a background that may have made their entire life very difficult because of small-minded bigots.

It's not banter. It's idiocy. Without wishing to sound like my grandad, many people with their roots abroad have fought and died for this country. That's worth remembering.

Ugly gay people may take offense though ? :D

No, because I'm not gay. And neither do you because you aren't gay. But if I was gay I might take offence at that. In the same way that calling an Asian person a "Paki" is offensive, and calling a white person a "Paki" isn't. Understand?

So by that logic, how can you tell me an Asian would be offended if you're not one yourself?

And i heard no 'Paki' chants last night.

But why is ok to call some one ginger or fat or big nose? if you come from a family of fat ginger big nosed people that is insulting their background also.

Just read this thread and so many posts are bordering on the ridiculous I don't really know where to start, but this quote seems like a good place.

I think the area round Kenilworth Road is great, safe and friendly, the Asian dominance somehow disinfects that place from suffering from the usual sub-species of chav lout you see hanging round too many of Britain's footy grounds.

I was brought up in an Asian area of London though so maybe I'm just wallowing in nostalgia
This is probably the most racist thing i've heard for a while (and I went to Luton last night). So what your saying is that your social standing is directly linked to the colour of your skin. So it's ok for you to look down on a white person from a deprived background and label them a Chav. How different is that from calling someone a Paki?
But when it's an aisian area you have some bullshit utopian view of clean, crime free streets because the aisian community are so much more friendly aren't they. Try telling that to my mate from Oldham, who can't walk down some streets in his area because he would get his head kicked in for being white.
I see aisian lads all the time in burberry and SI clothes and driving kitted up cars, thats the stereotypical chav isn't it?
You people never learn. Poverty doesn't care about skin colour, even if you do.

You're right, it's no worse. Both are offensive. Gays and Asians possibly are offended - although it's possible that not many go to matches because they don't feel comfortable in that environment. I wonder why

How about "thick twat?" Is that acceptable to you?

SPOT, f***ing, and ON.

But it'll undoubtedly be totally ignored by the WCWCTP Brigade.

I did not hear any of the 'bombing' chants last night but I do agree that they are beyond banter and should not be used. As for "Small town in Dehli" I actually find that 1 funny and definately class it as banter. It is a decent response to the gay songs we have to endure along and put it alongside the "You're too ugly to be gay" and "He's over there" (in reply to "Does you're boyfriend know you're here").

When fans are repeatedly taunted about their sexuality they are going to respond with an equally derogatory response relevant to the team they are playing.

With Luton it just happens that there are a lot of Asians living there, that's the way it is. Cardiff shag sheep, Shrewsbury are Welsh and they know they are, Carlisle is a small town in Scotland etc etc.

Maybe this is an area where we are missing a trick. We could quite happily abuse every other team that we play on the basis of race, colour, creed, disability, personal imperfections, etc, and resort to the tried and trusted defence of "well, you started it by calling us gay".

To be honest, I think the gay taunts have lost any offence because we expect them. We respond to them, and we almost seem to revel in them. Doesn't make them right....

Racist taunts are down to the club to sort out, that's what the stewards are there for. We should employ 6 foot tall gay, ginger, jewish, black stewards......

abso-f***ing-lutley, i'm not very politically correct but insulting some one for something they have no control over is no better or worse than racism or homophobia.

Great point.

You're right, I have NO IDEA whatsoever whether an Asian would be offended by being called a Paki (although I had an Asian friend at Uni who wasn't too keen on it, pathetic bitch eh) so its probably okay to call them it. Go away.

I think it's borderline to be honest, because it's totally incorrect. Luton is actually 5000 miles from Delhi. Consequently, there are racist overtones to the chant which is basically "you're a town full of Pakis".

Besides which, it isn't funny at all. It's f***ing rubbish and moronic.
