Racist chanting

I'm far from a member of the "PC brigade", but it only takes a couple of brain cells to realise that anyone who associates all-Asians/Black People/Arabs with terrorists, bombers or criminals is a witless moron and not, in any way, remotely amusing.

I got a good book for Xmas: "Is It Just Me Or Is Everything Shit?" which sums up the mentality nicely -

"GEOGRAPHICALLY INACCURATE RACISM

At school, pop sensation Darius would get called "Saddam". In fact, his father his Iranian - only one letter and one very long war away from accuracy.
Radio One DJ Nihal once got sent a charming picture with the words "Go Back To India" written on it with an arrow pointing to the Indian in the picture. The picture, carefully snipped from a magazine, portrayed a Peruvian Indian.
If people do have to be racist do they also need to be so droolingly braindead that they can't tell which ethnic group they are rabidly insulting? Maybe they should make special racist maps."

That, my friend, is a brilliant post.

Must get that book

complete wanker

You are correct, he's just a jumped up wannabee. It won't be too long before he gets a good kicking judging by what i saw of him last night.

The ignorant chanting last night about bombs/saddam/bin laden/delhi was pathetic. Anyone who can't see the difference between that and the gay chants doesn't want to. It's obvious.

Replying with our 'you're too ugly to be gay' etc. is far better than 'you're just a small town in delhi' or whatever other shite people think up.

What a load of bollocks.

What IS the difference exactly?

My mother in law lives in Sheffield and just after Sept 11th there were Asians driving round with pictures of Bin Laden in their cars.

But hey that's not racist at all is it.

The difference is that it 'you're just a town full of bombers' is claiming that everyone who lives in Luton or who is of asian decent is a suicide bomber.

'You're just a small town in delhi', what is wrong with delhi? I can see how it works with 'You're just a small town in Oxford' to Reading fans as Oxford is a small place with a poor football team, we're basically saying 'you're just insignificant' in that situation. But 'just a small town in delhi'? What is wrong with delhi that it would be a bad thing to be a small town in it?

The gay stuff is just a joke, is anyone really offended? Do gay people strapped bombs to themselves? No, of course not.

Trueblue, that was an excellent post, sums up the stupidity and ignorance of racists perfectly.

What makes me laugh, if that is an acceptable choice of words, is how racists refer to all asians as "Pakis" when in reality only a minority actually came from there originally. Many asians in Britain have their origins in places like Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka or even came here from East Africa. I believe that the word "Paki" means "clean" in Urdu, so what is intended as an insult is actually a compliment in a backhanded sort of way.

That has got nothing to do with it. Yes it is a stupid thing to do, but its entirely irrelevant.

Unless you're suggesting all Asians are the same and deserve to be abused?

but the people who start the racist chants are well 'ard and wouldnt dream of portraying themselves of being gay, as it ruins their image

What the same way that they infer that everyone who comes from Brighton is gay!
Yeah I can see the difference there :shootself

The gay stuff is a joke?
I know someone who doesn't find it all funny because he's err gay.
So tell me,if the gay stuff is all a joke why is what was said last night not referred to as a joke? ???

Brighton
Racisit chanting is wrong, just as much so as homophobic chanting, i was behind the goal in the second half when one of the old bill asked a group of fans to stop signing rapist chants to the goalie, when asked about the luton fans singing about us brighton fans being gay he didn't want to know. Unfortnuatly some brighton fans get wound up enough from the gay chants that they will start singing rasits chants like last night. So for the luton stewards not to do anything about the gay chants then its only going to make the situation worse

I think it basically comes down to the fact that being called gay is not offensive because being gay is not a 'bad' thing, where as being a suicide bomber, err, obviously is.

Right then I find it very very offensive so what can be done about that?
