Did Bozza just flounce? :flounce:

You seem like a sensible chap, I'm surprised it took so many year to realise debating politics online is the most futile waste of time available to a person.
If you recall the old NSC, people posted quite unpleasant racist stuff, and links to memes about the IRA, 'patriotism', and how the labour party and the democrats are part of a trained communist conspiracy. We can name several people who were eventually been booted off the modern NSC for their trolling (treading more carefully, but in a direction plain to see).

It is no wonder others have mobilised against this.

I would never have posted anything political on NSC were it not for the provocation. I have developed a long ignore list because I don't see the point discussing issues with the trolls.

Over the years however we have got very used to politics on NSC, and I would say that more than 90% of it is perfectly fine. I don't see any need to flounce. That said, the moderators can't put anyone on ignore so I guess it can be a bit annoying for them. The price of power and responsibility

whats happening here is using events to drive another agenda. nationalisation doesnt help renewable cost unless you change the way market pricing is strucutured (largely to help renewables 20yrs ago). if you change the market structure, you dont need to nationalise.
tory policy is just as borked, keeping the market structure because its good for business revenues and investments rather than fix the root problem.
I agree that there are other ways, and generally just decoupling renewables pricing from Gas prices should be done and would bring a lot of relief. I was just pointing out that Labour plans don't stop at the immediate issue, whether that is a better, or worse, way forward is another debate. I am not particularly for or against any particular way of operating in future, just that we must have energy security, though I fail to understand how it is better for a company to have a monopoly in some of the utility operations, than for these to be state operated.

On Radio5 yesterday morning Sir Max Hastings former Telegraph editor gave what I felt was a real balanced view on the state of the UK and how weve gone from being respected globally to an embarrassment. (Cant remember the exact words he said). The thing that struck home with me is that this country has historically worked best with a govt at the centre of politics and what we have now is a nationalist far right govt (and this is the view of the former editor of a paper called the Torygraph) also on the same Radio5 programme, it was said the quality of people in politics now is third division. add this to the fact the best Tories being centralists and therefore not running the show it’s no surprise we’re where we are.

Tony Blair (and John Smith) knew this and moved Labour to the centre, had David M not lost to Ed M then maybe Labour would have got back into power in 2015. but Labour went too far from the centre now the Tories are doing the same the other way.

As I said earlier what has impoverished our politics is a less than truthful press, jumping at every twist, miss read, or interpretation they can find. If you can parade a bus with a blatant lie with no consequence, what chance is there for a politician wishing to give a detailed honest answer knowing the slightest misstep will be pounced upon.
That's pure NSC too!

Maybe I am old fashioned, but I expect all MPs to know the specifics of their own party's policies. In fact, that should be the bare minimum I would expect - they should also have a good grasp of the other parties policies too.

I’ve always looked at MP’s as BDM’s (Business Development Managers) for their parties, taking in and being able to sell the points you have raised above.

A good sales person will know their audience, be able to show good product and market place knowledge and be able to sell why why they are better on the salient points than their competitors. They also need to be confident and believable

I see Liz took four questions, responded each time by repeating her non relevant energy slogan and ran off, I don’t think we are quite there yet!

I don't think we're a hive mind.

We'll all have slightly differing opinions on this. Reading today, Boz clearly feels the political stuff is more problematic than I do, but he's done the democratic thing and asked the community about it. I think that's tremendous. And his ball, at the end of the day.

What about a Hove mind?
It needs a "Brighton and...."

(Although, personally, since the City creation, boundary definition, PACA rebranding of PCC and The Railway opening I'm sulking we're not Brighton, Hove and Portslade Albion. I might write to Peter Kyle).

Indeed. Insists on long interchanges about MMT when there is no suggestion that the thread subject, Truss, even knows what MMT is.

I might even start a dedicated MMT thread if it becomes that much of a hot topic on this thread. Lol.
Bozza just reinstated me so now I can reply after having set up an alternative Truss thread. Firstly, I dont insist on long interchanges about MMT. As I have pointed out many times MMT is entirely relevant to this thread as it exposes in many different ways how utterly cr*p the governments policies are

you're fine, it's just some spotty faced student with no real world knowledge talking nonsense about a subject he knows very little about
This comment just made me laugh out loud. You dont know how wrong you are. I`m nothing like you imagine. As I have pointed out earlier in this thread many of the developers of MMT are completely grounded in the finance industry and banking they are not all ivory tower academics. They know plenty about the "real world" of economics and finance, and the complexities of the UK exchequer and the US Fed unlike their critics . For example Warrren Mosler, who I consider a genius, one of the founders of MMT, trained as an automotive engineer and economist, owned his own high performance car factory, and ran his own Bank., Hardly someone who is "talking nonsense about a subject he knows very little about"

Sir Max is my favourite author, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting twice and I enjoy listening to his opinions whilst not always agreeing with obviously. Rather than cite “3rd division talent” and all that, I do think we need to stop always (always) blaming the Politicians and start looking a bit closer to home. For who else votes them into power? We have created this mess. That’s the bottom line. To think millions still believe Boris should be given a 2nd chance! Sake, the electorate are more fickle than football fans seemingly! There is hope though. Yesterday I nearly crashed the car when a young Tory MP on the radio actually took responsibility, apologised and admitted they’d made a serious misjudgement backing Truss. Maybe politics is now so sick that MPs ready to give honesty a go?!

I gathered that, and and I subscribe to his insights. So it seemed reasonable to assume that the same would apply to him. I assume, also, from your comments you know more about econmomics than I do in the "real world" Could you give me a specific example of something relating to economica that I have said which is incorrect in your view with an example of your reasoning?

why is mmt so "fringe"?
It isnt fringe. Your avoiding my question because you cant answer it I suspect. Again, could you give me a specific example of something relating to economics that I have said which is incorrect in your view with an example of your reasoning?

you're clearly a recent convert, what with all that boyish enthusiasm

why has mmt been heavily criticized by many mainstream economists?
