It’s not just a strong anti immigration or pro death penalty. It’s the finding of humour in it.Just don't agree.
Belief in the death penalty and a strong anti-immigration stance aren't enough in themselves to be using these sort of words
Silly comment. We can debate this without smearing each other
I accept your earlier point about the need for vigilance and the risk of sliding into a much worse situation than we currently have
The Tories were centre right under Cameron, then they got consumed by nationalist fringe and kicked out a lot of their grandees and replaced them with populists. They're not far right but they are now hard right there's no escaping reality. The Conservatives are absolutely still a centre right party.... those further to the right still have their say of course, they still get voted in, but they are a minority.... if you think they are a far right party, you need to look at the far right parties across Europe... AFD for example, they are proper far right entities.....
You are seemingly following the vocal left social media crowd.. "if you don't support Corbyn or at least read the Guardian daily, you are a fascist"..... laughable.
Believing in a free market economy, free speech and have a patriotic attitude towards your nation, does not make you an effin Nazi.
That's just whataboutery and not my point. The Tories are stopping peaceful protest. The Tories control the media. And every rightwinger in the country shits themselves whenever Gary Lineker posts on 'X'.Cancel culture doesn't have it's roots in the local Conservative Club does it?,....... Seething pseudo Marxists in student union across the country ( via the US) are the source of that particular contribution to free speech and debate.
It is good for politics, the nation and society to have strong opposition. I personally hope the Tories complete a root and branch relaunch after they are crushed later this year. We NEED strong adversarial opposition in our political system.I agree with you totally. At a time when the Tories are imploding, when traditional centrist Tories have been left behind / expelled and when we are yet to see any upside of Brexit the Lib Dems are still trotting along at the same 9-10% in the polls as they were 5 years ago.
Go back 15-20 years and with this set of circumstances they'd be on 25%.
It is ironic that historically the Lib Dems have been dismissed as a party that will never get into power, yet UKIP - who have only ever had 2 MPs - have shaped British politics for the last decade.
Yes, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the toriesIt is good for politics, the nation and society to have strong opposition. I personally hope the Tories complete a root and branch relaunch after they are crushed later this year. We NEED strong adversarial opposition in our political system.
Haha heathgate. I have been a Conservative voter all my life and have never bought a copy of the Guardian. I have, however, read a few articles online because there is no pay wall and I do like to hear the opinions of those whose politics I do not share. I often find the opinions expressed too smug and righteous to digest. The Conservatives are absolutely still a centre right party.... those further to the right still have their say of course, they still get voted in, but they are a minority.... if you think they are a far right party, you need to look at the far right parties across Europe... AFD for example, they are proper far right entities.....

Ever heard the one about the emperor’s suit of clothes? While i'm not a fan of Reform UK, fascist is a strong word with a specific meaning.
I've not seen evidence they have tipped over into fascism
Especially with a white tie.You do realise that black shirts are sooo last year, dahling!
Precisely. I am quite happy to refer to that scummy 'party' as fascist. 'Reform', my arse. 'Making Britain Great Again'. FFS. Where will the wall go up? Goodwin Sands? Paid for by the French, no doubt. It’s not just a strong anti immigration or pro death penalty. It’s the finding of humour in it.
“100% don’t go on to reoffend”
And “let them get back on the dinghy’s”
The total lack of empathy. Total disregard for human life.
I am not saying we are heading for a Holocaust or a fourth Reich. But I am pointing out that these are the traits that lead to totalitarianism.
People are lead to believe that fascism can only mean genocide and antisemitism, war and Jack-boots.
But there are the more insidious techniques;
Demonising of specific groups of people, cruel immigration policy, fixation on crime and punishment.
Just a few of the tropes of fascism that are visible in the Tory party and certainly the Reform party.
We are not heading for a holocaust or genocide in this country but the taking over of a free society by a totalitarian government? The building blocks are in place.
Anderson on Farage - Reform's answer to Diane Abbott
Tice on Anderson - I'm pound shop and he is 30p Lee
Strange bedfellows.
In an attempt to cheer myself up I just looked at the same.In all seriousness, there’s just no substance to it.
That doesn’t make it fascist in itself.
It’s more like a wish list mixed with MAGA style proclamations about Brexit and ireland.
A mess, in other words.
