How did Gammon and Eggs play?

Well whatever he's on, it'll be a damn sight less than any other free transfer striker you can come up with who's got a proven track record at this level. That much is a pretty fair bet.

How much is he on?

3 in 13 + one crucial penalty is a lot better than 0 in 7-odd and one of the worst performances I have seen from a professional footballer. I can't believe there's any question over Iwelumo being better - he wasn't brilliant, but he did have the advantage of not having the touch of someone with shoeboxes on his feet.

Rather like you're remembering Iwelumo for crashing to the ground like a Canadian Redwood in the Play-off Final after a very rare inspired run (admittedly a memorable moment), you also seem to have selective memories of McCammon's perfomances - like slicing a cross into the crowd at Leeds perhaps?

That cross reminded me of something - Iwelumo's laughable shot from miles out in Cardiff when he was clean through, which summed up the guy's contribution to the season as much as his goals record.

Iwelumo was pretty poor, and so is Big Mac. But they're in the side to do a job.. and I think, taking his performances as a whole, McCammon's done a decent job so far.

I did see Iwelumo's debut goal from 25 yards at Chesterfield and it was a bit special. Marvelous scenes when it went in.

Considered the contribution he made was a pretty decisive one to getting us promoted, I doubt that summed it up at all. Has McCammon had a shot yet?

He can do a job if we're desperate, but I dearly hope we don't sign him permanently.

I didn't say I know how much he's on. But I do know that you won't get a striker with a proven track record at this level for money that Albion can afford.

So it will certainly be less, as I said before, than any proven alternative you can come up with.

Get it now, dumbnuts?

Yep. You're right... contribution was the wrong word there, because his presence up front did tip the balance in the promotion race.

Perhaps 'summed up his qualities' would have been more accurate. A big lump, with the occasional goal in him.

Agreed that I wouldn't want to McCammon on a particularly long contract, but can't see us finding anyone much better until we can offer a more attractive package in terms of wages and prospects. Until then, or scientists can clone Virgo, he does give us options.

???

Jesus. Shall I type slower so you can understand.

What I CERTAINLY know is that he will be cheaper than a PROVEN striker i.e. one who's scored plenty of goals at this level, or is dropping down from the Premiership. There is such a huge discrepancy between what a top Championship player or even Premiership reserve player earns and what Albion can afford that there can be absolutely no doubt McCammon is cheaper.

We don't need a 25-goal a season man, just someone better than McCammon. But as I said, I'm happy to have McCammon as another option in the short-term, just not long-term.

You seem to want a proven striker - just pointing out dont have to be proven to be good.

Do you not wonder why mccammon doesnt warm up his shooting? maybe because the club can afford to be sued by a fan being hit in the face by his wayward shots

I tell you what. Next match, I'll buy you a seat just to the side of the goal, and ask him to get some practice in.
