Homophobic Derby Fans banned

So would someone be arrested for singing 'You're old, and you've forgotten you are' if we played Eastbourne Borough in Sussex Senior Cup ?
You need to rethink your stereotypes. Langney Sports rebranded themselves as Eastbourne Borough solely to escape the reputation of their neighbourhood as being awash with teenage pregnancies. "You're young and you're up the duff" may be what you are looking for.

The likes of Costa and her croanies and the Sussex old bill are ruining it for those of us who don't feel the need to offended on someone else's behalf. All that will happen is other forces will join in and start banning people for trivial bullshit.

Did you study geometry? All you do is go off on tangents.

Where have I said I know what happened? All I know is 2 young lads can't go football for 3 years because of something they said. You seem to be the all knowing one. What did they say? Did anyone complain? Was anyone offended?

I don't care what it was they said, it could have been the most offensive thing in the world ever! The punishment does not fit the crime! I appreciate they are being made an example of but that isn't allot of comfort for them who now at least 2 years (you can appeal a banning order after 2/3 of it) of not being allowed anywhere near a regulated game of football. You sit on your arse all day doing **** all because you are "sick" (but well enough to go to football), perhaps you can give them some tips on how to fill their Saturdays now?

To be honest, the courts have done these two slimerags a favour. If football has become so important to them that it causes them to behave in such a repugnant, criminal way then having a three year break from watching it is exactly what they need. It will allow them to reevaluate the disproportionate importance they place on the team they support and what is just in a essence a silly little ball game in general. They can take the time they would have been spending going to football and behaving like arsebiscuits, and instead use it to better themselves in other areas of their life. Maybe take up a Saturday class and learn a new life skill, for example. Had they acted in such a manner in a supermarket, for example, they would likely be starting a prison sentence, so just being prevented to going to watch a few blokes having a kickabout for a couple of years is less a punishment and more an opportunity for them to get their lives back on track and become a benefit to, rather than a stain on, society as a whole.

Are you for real? Are you trying to tell me they got off lightly because they were at a football ground?

Suggest you lay of the sherry old son!

Most of the away fans come down here thinking we are a soft touch even if they are warned before hand it still doesn't make any difference. I think the Albion fans are to be applauded for the restraint that is shown in the face of all this homophobic chanting. Back in the 70's we wouldn't have been so tolerant but it's a different generation now and things have changed.

You do not think a 3 year ban would be acceptable for the "most offensive thing in the world ever"???

if they chanted ' we can see you holding hands'- does that mean we cant reply ' you are too ugly to be gay' ?

This from The BBC-

Derby County fans banned for homophobic chants at Brighton
Two Derby County fans who admitted shouting homophobic abuse at Brighton supporters have been banned from football matches for three years.

Brothers Shane, 25, and Daniel Davies, 20, were arrested after a game at Brighton's Amex Stadium on 10 August.

The pair, both Derby County season ticket holders from Brough, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, cannot attend any matches in the UK or abroad.

Shane Davies was order to pay a £160 fine and Daniel Davies fined £87.

They were sentenced at Brighton Magistrates' Court on Monday after pleading guilty to public order offences at an earlier hearing.

'Not tolerated'
Derbyshire Constabulary said this was the first time Rams fans had been given football banning orders over homophobic abuse.

PC Allan Guy added: "Homophobic abuse won't be tolerated.

"This type of behaviour is unacceptable and using it in a football stadium is no different.

"Hopefully this will serve as a reminder to supporters that action will be taken against anyone causing offence by using this type of language."

Both men were ordered to pay £50 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Very, very sure it was threats involving AIDS, HIV etc - not the "We can see you holding hands" - that would NEVER get you arrested, not even if you actually said it to a police officer.

To those saying it should be ignored, homophobic comments/abuse is illegal. If someone burgled your house and it didnt bother you, would you then also say the police wouldnt need calling despite it being against the law ?

Some posters on here are stuck in the 70s.

Silly old bat
Arthur & pretty pink fairy, you haven't got a clue what happened. Liz Costa was absolutely nothing to do with this, so why have a go at someone who doesn't use this forum to have a right of reply? You think it's ok to slag off someone who wasn't there? Stop hiding behind your anonymity to be bitchy about other fans.

The two Derby fans were arrested for a Public Order Act offence. They were behaving aggressively as well as the things that they shouted out. They would probably have been arrested for their behaviour but the obscenities were the icing on the cake for the police.
It was not in the stadium for chanting but outside where there were crowds of fans with children.

The blokes concerned admitted it and pleaded guilty. Why do some Brighton fans feel the need to stand up for them?

I explained that earlier but some people are deaf to the truth and are only interested in their own agenda.
