common sense would say you are correct
however certain sections of the BHAFC community claim 50% of us are gay,so your notion most of us are straight is false.

Surely everything is dependent on the context, there is banter, but when does it cross the line?

I'm not offended by 'we can see you holding hands' etc..... Are the Liverpool fans offended by 'you'll never get a job' or 'town full of shell-suits'? Do we stop singing 'where's your caravan' to Gillingham, Palace or Reading out of fear of causing offence to travellers or those with a romany background? Strawberry blond? - you're having a laugh' to ginger hair (incidentally I did as a child - doesn't worry me)......

It all just feels a bit too far for me 'nanny state' etc. Apologies if I am out of touch.......

What a crock of shit the OB will never be consistent in arrests they will pick out a couple of Derby or Yeovil fans for example but ignore 1000+ Millwall fans again for example.

It was particularly two references that tipped the scales of justice against them,..... chanting at the south east section of home fans such notable dittys that included "take it up the ****" and another referring to HIV and AIDS, alerted the stewards and police, 3 years is reasonable for such casually irresponsible behaviour in front of what would have been a section loaded with women and children.

There isn't and eventually they will be banned, the butt hurt brigade have already moved on to "tards" and "mongs". It is a slippery slope argument you can watch being played out, nothing good will come of it.

Absolutely agree. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, keeping it all in context there is a massive difference between saying vulgar things like that and a bit banter 'we can see you holding hands'. I think people on here saying they shouldn't be banned have obviously never heard how hateful and disgusting some people can be towards even individual people in the street. Put it this way, if you were in a normal street in Brighton this wouldn't be acceptable so how can people make the excuse that it's just 'banter'

"We", the fans, the club, the footballing world, modern day society, decent people, people with half a brain, people that live in the 21st century. Take your pick. There was no insinuation that one would lead to the other just an observation that racism is supposedly no longer tolerated in football so why should homophobia? Both have no place in football or modern day society.

I don't buy this whole "banter" thing as it just seems like a scapegoat so people can act like dicks and say stupid and often offensive things but pass it off as "banter". And no such thing as homophobia? Wow. Ok. Good luck with that train of thought.

I have no sympathy with the two individuals and homophobic language / abuse should not be tolerated. What puzzles me ( and concerns me a little ) is the punishment. Their punishment seems partly based on them being football fans - i.e. the banning order. If they'd shouted the abuse down West Street on a Friday night they certainly wouldn't have got a banning order. That said I don't know why I'm surprised - the authorities have always over-punished football supporters.

To be fair without knowing all of the facts it is difficult to judge. The media haven't seen fit to state the specifics in the case. They could have been singing 'we can see you holding hands' they could have been outwardly aggressive (and homophobic) in the faces of innocent fans.

Either way the Judge saw fit to serve FBO's. That said they hand them out like party bags these days so I would be intrigued to know what they actually did. What were the actual charges again?
