I am not impressed by his various outbursts and wonder whether he really has the qualities to make a successful manager over the long term.I hope so,but I am not convinced.I have no idea,but I wouldn't be surprised if the Board are perhaps a little bit weary of his recent utterances and would rather he kept his trap shut and got on with the job.
Unlike the 95% or so who voted that Gus is the guy to lead us into the promised land,I remain to be convinced.Let us see what the summer brings(at least a goalkeeper of note I hope!!!) and take it from there.

By your logic, if we got promotoed to the prem and then were around 8th all season until we eventually dropped to 15th, you would criticise Poyet for throwing away a potential european spot.

Can't agree with that.I haven't slagged off any of the players;but I have expressed a view on Poyet.
This is a fans' forum isn't it and not everyone agrees that Gus is beyond criticism.What a dull board it would be if posters were not allowed to question the manager's tactics,decisions,temperament etc.It would be a unique amongst football forums!....and boring!

Over the last three games:
1. We thrashed Reading, just the mere technicality that we did not score as many goals as them meant we didn't get what we deserved. Look what they did to Southampton just a few days later.
2. West Ham was a mess, but last year's league one team against a largely premiership team... and both Arsenal and Man U have lost matches by similar scores this season.
3. Watford might have been a bit silly, but a great comeback. And as the watford report posted elsewhere on here admits, we outplayed them for most of the first half, and went in 0-2 down!

And Gus already has said we need a massive rebuild. I have a sneaking feeling he might know what he is doing.

Genuine question and not Gus bashing (this time)..What was/is the better achievement....McGhee keeping us in this division playing at Withdean, in front of 6,000 ish people, without a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. With a squad of players with the like's of Virgo(playing up front), Mayo, Oatway, Chippy, Ogh etc.
Or Poyet, finishing mid table, playing at the Amex with Bloom's millions and a squad of players including a couple of million pound+ signings and 6 prem players loaned in at one stage or another during the season and an ex spanish superstar....This is a genuine question, that I would like people to think about for a moment. It's a simple question, what was the better managerial achievement??

Have we had a great season - YES

Have we done better than anyone (at the club or us as supporters) dreamed was possible before the season started - YES

Has Gus overall done a great job - YES

Has he made some strange team selections in the last few games - YES (I was at Burnley and when we saw the team feared the worst.)

IMO, we are a season ahead of ourselves - I expected to be much lower down the table this year.

Next year will be the big test for Gus and the players, as expectation levels will continue to rise as he spends more money, and better players are drafted in.

We occupy a very good position but it was the managers erratic recent team selections that tailed off our possible playoff position,thankfully we are nowhere near a Premiership side so it has saved us a very bad experience next season,possibly this explains Poyets actions.

Next year will be the big test for Gus and the players, as expectation levels will continue to rise as he spends more money, and better players are drafted in.

Gus himself has set those expectations.

If we finish, say, 9th this season, then that's our marker, and is the bare minimum he wants to finish next season - anything lower is regression - though he has mentioned getting to the play-offs. That's his main priority. How he gets us there is his challenge.

OK - I'll do my best, but be in no doubt, the way you've posted your question, you HAVE loaded it. If you can't see that, more fool you.

McGhee's achievement in keeping Brighton up that season was little short of miraculous - and should forever be applauded and appreciated. However, they way you've worded it, it makes out he only had sub-standard rubbish to play with; those players were better than that. Otherwise, why mention them? We had Premiership players playing for us in that season too.

Regarding this season - One, you call ninth 'mid-table'. You don't call it, say, 'top-half', or 'just outside the play-offs'. You see what I mean by 'loaded'?

Two, you mention playing at the Amex. Yes, we're playing to bigger crowds, but that doesn't automatically mean we play better football - no matter who is in charge. It also doesn't mean we're competing on a level playing field with other club. This is our first season here, with no previous seasons' heavy spending in comparison to other clubs.

The 'facts' as you present them only tell a tiny amount of the story.

So which is the better achievement? The fact is... no, it's not a simple question - nor does it have a straightforward answer. It's like comparing apples with oranges.

However in comparison to Saints surely he should have got the club higher up the table?
