So, you're happily placing yourself as far down the evolutionary chain as Kev.

I thought you were more intelligent, personally.

I agree with a lot of what he said. We have basically thrown away an amazing opportunity which was in our own hands only last week. Poyet's team selections in must win games have left me stunned. It's the frustration of being soo close but yet soo far. Every fan who pays for a ticket deserves an opinion. All will differ, but for me Poyet has thrown away a massive opportunity to reach the premier league

I will try to be objective here. While Gus and the Albion's achievements have been fantastic over the last couple of seasons; in the position of manager your neck is always on the line and you are open to critism.

Gus has opnely admitted that he got West Ham and if he had another chance he would have done things different, maybe if he looked back over the season there are other times that he has made mistakes but he has also got several decisions right.

Gus is passionate and at times that can come across as arrogant, I didn't like his comment in The Sun today about fans booing, sorry but we are all entitled to an opinion as paying customers, I didn't boo but if supporters felt fit to boo then fine.

Gus deserves at least another year in the job but I do get the feeling that the naitives are becoming restless and he needs to make sure that he gets it right in the summer and not sign poor goal keepers and average outfield players when quality is required for the Albion to further progress.

An opportunity which he earned by massive over-achievement.

Basically if we have been 17th all season and then surged to where we are now everyone would be DELIGHTED.

I wonder how our Chairman is viewing Gus' regular outbursts and the fact that we have thrown away a good chance of making the play offs?

That and the constant public pressure being put on him to spunk even more money on the Club. It is so unfair to keep putting pressure on Tony Bloom to spend more and more money by gobbing-off to the media. I still cannot get over the thought that the daft recent team selections, inviting poor results, and intended to demonstrate the actual potential of the players we have under contract, when the loan players are out of the equation. Maybe that is why we ended the season so poorly last year as well?

We all know Gus has aspirations of managing at a higher level - Christ he tells a anyone who will listen often enough! However, he needs to stop playing politics, get his head down, and do the job he is paid to do.

I wonder if TB and the Board are happy to hear his outbursts at the fans, given their desire to increase gates and revenues? Or perhaps, he genuinely thinks fans are only there to support his precious players?

You are right, but we wasn't 17th, we were 4th at 1 point. It's all good people saying where we came from but it was in our hands. I agree we over achieved, but the last couple of games we have just given up without a fight. Poyet's tactic's and team selections have not helped recently either.

Can't agree on everything there.

One, it's beyond Kev's wit to acknowledge that it was Gus who got us this close in the first place.

Two, since we hit fourth spot, with one more game played than others, and four play-off / promotion contenders still to play, it was always going to be difficult. Our chances were much slimmer than people are prepared to admit.

He initially gave the play-off run-in a go, but I think the turning point was the Burnley game - a game we could have won, given a fair chance. After Reading - even though it was a good performance - the writing was on the wall. I know it has been mathematically possible until last night, but I feel he has been looking at players for next season / contract decisions - getting ahead of many others for a sustained push next time. You might query the wisdom of using league games to find out, but I can't see how else he would find out.

With the progression Tony and Gus demand of themselves and everyone around them, I honestly believe 'this amazing opportunity' will present itself next season. :)

Right...and WHO was the manager who got us to 4th in the first place? Say it with me!...

i am not happy with his comments after last nights game.

he is south american - egotistic, flippant, bad loser, and arrogant...........but, he does get the team playing well sometimes......the only verdict that matters it Mr Bloom's.

i dont like the way he thinks the "old brighton' were always rubbish - i don't think he has done his history homework enough.

We didn't make the play-offs because, over the course of the full season, we were not good enough. Looking at the clubs (and their resources) around us it isn't overly surprising. We have over-performed relative to our recent history and financial clout. The test now is to see if we can perform to the same level next season when, hopefully, the experience gained this year will stand us in better stead. It is a massive challenge and much will depend on how we make the transition from a League 1 pay structure to Championship challengers. I think we can rest assured that if Tony can achieve that sustainably then he will but if not then we will have to accept a slower rise and possibly the loss of our current manager. Better that than Pompey!

So why are you focusing on the negative and not the positive?

It's not that im focusing on the negative, just pisses me of when people think that we have no right to question Gus because of where we have come from. He made serious errors recently and has acknowledged them. Overall I am happy with where we are, just think it could have been so much better

and who was the manager who let it all slip away? Same one

I don't think you're quite getting this.

The fact we are even IN a position to 'muck it up' is a testiment to Gus.

By your logic, if we got promotoed to the prem and then were around 8th all season until we eventually dropped to 15th, you would criticise Poyet for throwing away a potential european spot.

Of course things could have been better, and people question Gus all the time - I know I do.

But that's different from blaming him (and him alone) for not reaching the play-offs.

I agree, Gus done well to get us where we were, which makes his recent team selections even Crazier. I'm not saying he is a shit manager. Just made some very odd decisions that have cost us an opportunity to get to the Premier league. Even talking about the PL seems crazy, but that is where we are at

Really interesting concept. Anyone think there is any truth to this?
