I don't say anything ? Well where is your proof of the government spying ? Give an example instead of bullshitting. The more you procrastinate the bigger fool you look. To make accusations without any justification is ridiculous but as we have already established you're an idiot I doubt that you can grasp this simple fact. Then of course I doubt that the concept of 'fact' is within your grasp.

What accusations? I guess I'm going to have to quote my earlier post: 'You may not be being spied on now (I accept I may have been guilty of hyperbole)- but do you want the systems in place that would allow it? Are these systems justified? You seem to believe our Government is, was and always will be a benign force. This isn't the case historically- why are you so confident about the future?'

The concept of 'fact' is my whole argument. Throughout this thread I've argued that people should question what they are told and seek facts. I've offered evidence in response to the claim that 9/11 was the catalyst for the conflict between the West and Islam (see the Middle Eastern Map of US and UK Government Interventions Since 1945). I've provided facts to support my assertion that CCTV is not effective (see the Home Office report above).

You have offered nothing but conjecture and insults.

Bakero winning this debate by a country mile so far.

yeah but it's only the shouty brigade he's up against

Cheers Prankster- I was beginning to feel like I was banging my head against a brick wall.

Shouty brigade is an apt description, Scampi. I'll know in future not to get in circular arguments with certain people. I'm all for contrasting opinions and reasoned debate but being called an idiot repeatedly is a lttle tiring.

Lies and fantasies are your stock in trade then ? When are you going to actually support these accusations ? Tell me do you work for a tabloid ? You certainly have the imagination required.

The fact that there's absolutely no evidence to support your theory makes you look pretty stupid.

Oh dear, well if you want to agree with a bullshitter then you should be shouted at too. I can't quite see how a debate about CCTV got here except for the fact that somebody has decided that it is part of a government conspiracy to spy on the population. How the hell does that come to be ? The fact that nothing has been said to support this theory speaks volumes. Try reading the entire thread.

'Does it really not concern you that our government spies on its citizens? This displays an ignorance of history. Do you believe that the only people opposed to CCTV have something to hide? '

What's that then ? Is that not a baseless accusation you said yourself ? (have a look). It's baseless until you justify the accusation. Just how does the use of CCTV equate to being spied on ? When will you answer me ?

I read it and agree with Scampi.

Why does any debate where you are involved always end up with you name-calling? Genuine question

It's frustrating when somebody makes a statement then won't actually justify it. If I get a patronising response I reply in kind. As this Bakeroo has failed repeatedly to support he comment I rest my case, like I say, read the whole thread.

Will this answer your (repeated) question?

BBC News - Police number plate recognition camera rules tightened

"The 4,000-strong automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) network logs more than 10 million vehicles every day.

The government is to look at limiting access to the database of 7.6 billion images, details of number plates and the date, time and place of capture."

Yes and in the process the ANPR system is taking literally thousands of untaxed, uninsured and unlicensed drivers off the road. Which would you prefer ? Once you've been hit by an uninsured driver you might feel differently.

I don't agree that CCTV prevents crime at all, however it does make detection a lot easier. As far as any miscarriage of justice is concerned, that is a sad fact of life and always had been. We used to hang people for stealing a loaf of bread and that's without any corroboration, we have at least moved on from there.

This is getting boring. As stated above I have consistently provided sources to back up my claims. You have chosen to continually disregard this.

Now you have gone back to my first post that I later clarified. I said 'Does it really not concern you that our government spies on its citizens?' By this I meant that we are the most 'watched' society in the developed world. I clarified this later:

'You may not be being spied on now (I accept I may have been guilty of hyperbole)- but do you want the systems in place that would allow it? Are these systems justified? I have already requoted this post but again you chose to disregard it. Perhaps you need further explanation. Hyperbole means exageration for emphasis. 'Spies' is an emotive word, I used it for effect. If I said 'watches' would you be so riled?

Hello, first time poster here !

Been following the discussion re cctv with interest - I'd say that the single biggest reason for the decline in hooliganism inside football grounds has been the introduction of cctv.

For surely 99% of the population, if you know there's a very good chance of being convicted, you don't commit the offence.

The question I replied to was regarding evidence of spying.

As for effectiveness, this is another question. But it's already been done to death on here. But for the record I think it is limited and nowhere near as effective and fool proof as some think it is.

rubbish its the massive sentences dished out by distorting offences to 'football related' ones for added time, that has done it. massive police operations and intelligence. cctv in itself is less than pointless if the sentences are not a deterrent.

every time i see a policeman pointing his camcorder at someone at a football match i want to shove it down his throat.

No I haven't what? Who was a cut and paste expert too? WTF?

EDIT: Ok, I see you were saying someone else you lost an argument with was a cut and paste expert. I'm having to cut and paste because you choose to ignore everything I say.
