Don't try and tar me with the racist card as my post pointed out that IT WAS NOT acceptable to speak like that if the person was black or muslim. Just because I could not support the German football team do not try and accuse me of rasicm.

how can you be tarred with a card?

Indeed. But it's a LAW of piss-poor journalism that only the hack is allowed to indulge in any jokes, gags, irony, or sarcasm. Should the sportsman indulge, the journalist reserves the right to take him totally literally and carve him up a treat.

And we are total hypocrites on a lot of nationality issues. If it was an Englishman not continually saying they were English and proud of it, the press would go mad. Yet if a Scotsman quite reasonably does it, it's somehow perceived as a sleight. Even if, as Harveys says, it was an imaginary sleight in the first place. Mad.
nobody has a problem with him being proud of being scottish its the anti english stance thats gets peoples goat ,and give me a break with the "he was joking " excuse , no he wasnt, the same way the scotland team werent joking in 1991 when they all wore australia scarves to the rugby world cup final.

At the end of the day we have to remember that however magical and dramatical last night was, he did it to reach the QUARTER final, and he is being hailed as if he has just become the first British man to win since Fred Perry.

Being a Brit, he will probably beat Nadal and loose to someone ranked below him in the Semi.

As for the rest of the sporting nation we seem to make heroes out of people that nearly did something amazing, but not actually achieve anything of any significance; Tim Henman, Lewis Hamilton, Paul Gascoigne, Wayne Rooney, Kevin Pietersen spring to mind.

And people that are rewarded for success gets a bit stupid, and get awarded with MBE's etc

This hits the nail right on the head as to why we never win anything. Murrays win is on the front and the back page of many papers and yet all he has done is win a game to get through to the quarter finals...against a man whom before yesterday only tennis lovers would know. Murray's tournament will be regarded as a success because he beat Gasquet whatever happens against Nadal. Yet Nadal will probably breeze past him! Murray's tournament will still though be regarded as success. Where as Federer attempts to win his 6th Wimbledon in a row, now that is true success! They will also make the excuse and say Murray is one for the future he is too young yet this is not his time, but he is the same age as Nadal and Djorkovic and they both have won major's. Nadal many of them.

Murray is lauded as some all conquering hero, the greatest tennis player whom had ever lived because he has come from a 2 set to down against a man whom was never going to win the tournament. It is the same with our football team, a single success against one team is regarded as a major success, yet to win a World Cup requires a string of 6/7 games in a month without defeat. The Germans can do things like this time and again without seemingly a fuss, that is why it was there 10th final the other day and they have 3 world cups and numerous Euros.

Laughably - and seemingly growingly - unhinged. Who on earth mentioned Germany? :lolol:

Although...that country does produce good tennis players, btw, or at least used to. The fact that even tiny villages there, like the one I grew up in as a kid, often tend to have good tennis facilities might just have something to do with that.

Anyway sorry...back to the madness...

As Ricky Gervais said, the Scots aren't just a bunch of alcoholics anymore. They do smack as well.

I'll support Murray though. If as an Englishman you can't take a bit of Scottish banter then that's pretty sad.

YOU made a false accusation on here insinuating I was saying it was ok to be offensive about Black and Muslim people, the EXACT opposite to the point I was making as well you know. Now just GO AWAY.

But they don't really... not the Scots I know anyway. They would likely support another team ahead of England yes, but I'm sure a lot of us sniggered at Scotland's brave exit to France & Italy in the group stages of the Euro's. But if they had got through we would also have been pleased for them. And that's how most Scot's feel about England... they pay lip service to supporting "anyone but England" but when we do well they're also happy for us.

That's my experience of the Scots (and Welsh & Irish too)

I think you're missing out on an awful lot in your life if you have never experienced hats. They can keep your head warm in winter or the sun out of your eyes in summer. They come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours. Give them a try and you'll never look back. (Don't forget, just because you put one on your head doesn't mean you can't take it off again, it's not a permanent feature).

nbibble - you love a good wind-up.

I would point out that in the first post I made I mentioned the similar treatment that Henman was subjected to which to be frank has been a bit lost on here.

Yes I love the banter - yes we indulge in the whole sporting banter and who loves watching the other screw up - everyone loves it on here - I would refer you to the posts when Italy breached our defence in the first 30 seconds in the last qualifier - and then the absolute hiding Scotland got in the last seconds when we threw it away.

That is what the banter is about - my point about Murray is that he has been lambasted for the comment about English football.

Henman was lambasted for being a soft middle-class toff - and that is what riles me and that was the point of the post.

In my opinion this 'country' enjoys throwing a sports celebrity to the sharks than getting behind them, recognising their qualities and achievements.

Henman was one of the 10 greatest players in his time - look at the ratings - but he got slaughtered even for his name - Timmy.

Murray may be an objectionable little shit - frankly I couldn't care - and just as you would we will all jump on the Murray bus while he's doing well and claim that he is Scotlands great product.

English people love the Scottish calamaties and we love watching you lot fall flat on your face.

The reason it's such a binfest at the moment is that those two events happen rather frequently.

What does m,ake me laugh is after the Ashes all the England boys get a medal - and have an open-top bus ride - setting themselves up perfectly for the horror show that was the tour down under.

They had won a series - nothing more than that - although it was a fantastic sporting event - but everyone claims that they are world beaters - and then nails them when they inevitably get nailed 5-0 next time round.

It's actually up there with SCotland boss (I cant bring myself to say his name) claiming that we were going to win the World Cup in 1978 - how to set yourself up for a fall.

Trousers, it's better when you keep your posts short, this whole Murray thing has clearly led to some major losing of the plot.

We got very excited about the Ashes because in effect it made us (albeit very temporarily as it turned out) world champions. Australia were/are the best.

We got very pissed off at losing 5-0 because we played utter, utter shite, like a team who thought once was enough and had been partying for 18 months, while the Aussies were desperate to get them back.

And I think you've completely missed the point about Henman as well. It's not so much him that was the problem. He was a very good player. It's the coverage he got, and the type of 'fan' of his found at Wimbledon (in general terms) that grated everyone's shit, plus simpering interviews with long-time family friend Sue Barker. There comes a point where you just can't take any more, and he copped a lot of flak personally for some external things that weren't his fault. Probably did an advert or two too many, but he wasn't the first to make that mistake.

The shouting, fist pumping and muscle showing what was we have been missing for years. English people and England like LOSERS, they celebrate LOSING and under achieving whether it be in sport or business. ANYONE who is a winner or achiever is hated in England.

FFS. Do you make a habit of talking shite all the time?

What f****** bandwagon are you going to jump on next time?
