will we find out by the end of the week who has signed. Is that not when the league has to be told who is staying or going?

Not necessarily.

Of those out of contract, it's only Mayo, Oatway and Loft that some people have the hump about retaining. The other 12, by implication, would be popular choices for retention. As it is, 11 - not 12 - have been offered deals. How many of them will accept them is something we will have to wait and see.

And from there, we can work out how much money is left to acquire others like Whing or Flinders or Rehman or that elusive 25-goal a season striker.

But... if we could (I know we can't because of the contract fiasco - who's to blame? I think I know), we should have released Mayo... Oatway and Loft should have gone too, PLUS the four that were actually released, and maybe Fogden too (can't comment / haven't seen him play)... now... that sort of clearout may have left us with some money to play with in the player acquisition game... as it is, the club have not been brave enough in wielding the axe, IMHO...

Too much loyalty... too much sentiment... too many rewarded for a poor season...

Ideally the squad would have been for me:

New Keeper; Sullivan; Martin

New RB (Whing?); P.hinsh
A.Hinsh, Lynch; Elphick, Butters
New LB; Rents

Reid; New RW cover
Bertin, Hammond; Fraser, New CM cover
Cox; Frutos

New Striker, Revell/Savage/Elder

El-Abd as utility back up, Fogden and Chamberlain given more prominent roles. Also potentially need to get in another player like Rehman who can cover at CB and CM. Gatting, Robinson, Winterton, Gargen and Cobbs all out on loans.

I would say some frees and loans sould have covered it..

6 players will never happen, Leslie! Anyway, I don't think we need "cover" players - we have loads of those. What we need are three quality first-teamers who can come in and make a difference, and in my opinion they should be a right-back, a striker, and a midfielder who can get forward and create something.

Couldn't agree more...

why don't we give Dean a bit of time and see who comes in for pre-season training. I very much doubt DW will give out info of players he has asked down in case other clubs jump in. All this moaning is doing f*** all to help 'support' the club is it
some people really need to get a life

Agree to an extent, but some people need to recognise that the club does NOT make perfect decisions every time... far from it... and this retained list is a good example, IMHO...

In a cave
When Hammond was offered his 3 month contract a couple of years ago I have no doubt that at the time NSC would have been after his blood and asking why the club should give a new contact to a useless player!

Its great to see that we have so many potential Premiership managers on NSC, obviously Wilkins should step aside now along with Dick Knight and leave the club in the capable hands of NSC!

Ernest for Chairman, Prime Minister, leader of the World Bank, and chief ticket inspector at Brighton station - the campaign starts now!

Mr Morris should be the new club accountant as he appears to be offering every player less money despit not knowing what they are paid now!

Why not go the whole hog and rename the team NSC Brighton FC!

He was at Barcelona v Real Betis.

One other point - I am assuming that Mark McGhee's salary will be freed up after June 30th, and that saving will be placed in strenghtening the playing squad. I hope so anyway.

Now, that is a very good point... Wendy must be on far less than MM... my only worry is that the saving gets swallowed up in the club's debts...

So because I'm not the Prime Minister I don't have a right to have an opinion on Politics?

I am pretty certain the club and manager were slagged off big time for perservering with such a shit player by a large number of NSC posters.

assuming Reid will be fit when he returns.
Apparently so.

He returned to training after his long lay-off from... whatever it was he did. He then crocked himself in training and hurt something else - something which is recoverable in a time period of 4-6 weeks, and he did this about a month ago.

The original injury has healed apparently.
