I thought we had agreed the contract extension before the WC, which wa swhy our agreed release clause was not as high as it should have been.

Yes, I forgot the WC was in November not October so scrap that sentence.

Still too low imo, we knew and big Clubs knew what Mackie was capable of even without the WC exposure - he was playing the Premier League every week. He wanted (and deserved) a big 6/7 Club so maybe there was the threat hanging over us that he could leave on a free transfer if his agent didn’t agree to terms .

I have a little pet hate of ‘happy news’ contract extensions when we know they are probably precursors to a player (or manager!) leaving.

For Liverpool.

Yes saw that LFC have initiated ‘Talks’.

A long way to go but maybe - Nürnberg have a loan to buy option on him which they will want to exercise to cash in.

A young player like Tzimas could probably have his pick of several larger clubs than us.

After tonight's news of yet more injuries, there's absolutely no way Enciso will be sold or loaned now.
12 players now out - about the same as this time last year? ☹️.

It’s a testament to TBs spending in the summer that we are in a better position than we were last January but I can’t see us selling anyone that will hamstring Fab’s efforts to put a decent 11 together (+ 3 or 4 decent subs).

Mackie was sold for peanuts as far as I’m concerned - he was worth far more than than £35m ( even with add ons) - a WC winner just 24 years old with his whole career ahead of him? - unfortunately with McAllister out of contract that summer, in the previous October ( following lots of exposure at the WC) we agreed a release clause as a condition of Mackie agreeing to renew his contract to 2025, which Liverpool were able to trigger. ( I am not sure why we didn’t renew his contract before the WC - or maybe we tried to?)

It is really hard to compare the transfer values of players with other players but for me, were it not for the contract winding down and the release clause, we should have got £60m for our MF star. ☹️

Edit - forgot WC was in the November not October, so we did agree the extension before the WC.
I think I read in credible sources at the time (basically Naylor) that Mac's fee was up to £55m with 'easily achievable' add ons. I'm guessing they have been met or certainly will with LIverpool winning the league. I rated him better for a team than Caicedo, mind.

I kinda see that. I still rate Enciso and think he has bags of potential. He may not have realised that yet with us but he is our most attack minded player.
In style, if Elliot is more similar to a Mac Allister or Groß with Enciso similar to a player like Grealish, I’m afraid I’d want Elliot as a midfield playmaker (who can tackle and track back properly) because that position is more important to the current squad than a dribbling, shooting wonderkid.

In a world where Minteh and Rutter cost 30-35m last summer, £35m for Enciso is a fair price.
They are all talented players who may or may not take the next step up.
We are not going to get more than that amount for someone who isn’t a first team regular.
The same goes for Ferguson - the fact that he hasn’t been selected even when fit, speaks for itself to other clubs.

Maybe that's why we're after Harvey Elliott - because Enciso is off?
Atalanta reportedly wanting a loan to buy deal at €11m - which is what we paid for him.

Not going to happen
