[Albion] 2025 January Transfer Window OPEN - incoming/outgoing

I am struggling to understand some of these decisions this transfer window:-

1) send one young forward out on loan, sign another but also then immediately send him back out on loan. Result, 1 forward less to choose from.

2) Sign one defender but sell 1 for only £1m with another (Lamptey) possibly going as well, in a part of the team where we are desperately short.

I just don't get it!
A couple of possible scenarios:

1) Not every decision is purely based on the numbers in a squad. Fergie (for whatever reason) wasn't getting a lot of game time and when he did get onto the pitch, he wasn't exactly setting the world alight. So he was sent to get some somewhere else with a view to a) be sold in the summer or b) come back raring to go and be part of the squad next season. Potentially with Stef the Greek, who would, again be surplus to requirements and one for the future.

2) There are potentially players coming back from injury that would further hinder McConville's progress to a regular first team spot. He didn't want to sign a new contract so it made sense (financially and for the player) for him to move on. Lamptey hasn't gone anywhere yet and the window hasn't closed, so there could be further movements. But, at the moment, it's one in, one out.

You might not get it, but I'm sure the people who are actually making these decisions have a plan!
