Look, I know there's bonuses involved and all of that, but (assuming Sky's reporting it correct) you've got to be a right dick to put in a request on the last day. If the deal didn't look like it'd go through, he should have put it in last week at the latest.
Something can't be sent "light years ago", as light years are a measure of distance (the distance that light travels in one year to be exact). As radio waves travel at the speed of light, and the HD 164595 system is about 95 light years away, the signal would have been sent about 95 years ago...
For this particular radio signal they'd have to be more advanced than us, the energy requirements seem to be so significant that we couldn't generate the signal (based on my reading anyway). Most life in the universe is probably less technologically advanced than us though, as the Earth itself...
They're not all accelerating away from us. Andromeda is coming towards us for example. Those moving towards us seem much rarer, but still number in the hundreds I believe.
The millions of light years issue is, as you imply, pretty disheartening, unless we find something like traversable wormholes.
Ah! These are Perytons! Weird things. Caused by people opening microwaves while they were still on, but took em 17 years to work it out. Unrelated to the Wow signal.
It may well end up being like the Wow signal, where it's very interesting for a while but no one can work out if its actual evidence of life or not because it never repeats. Hopefully the long term monitoring that's now being undertaken will show us the same signal again, or at least work out if...
Did I say it should? I don't think it should be a big story really. However, if those involved are doing it voluntarily in an attempt to be a role model or if it makes them feel more comfortable about being able to seen with partners etc... in public then that seems quite reasonable.
Completely agree. They're excellent and really have made it much safer. I'm a regular bus rider along Lewes Road and it always looked awful for cyclists before, seems much better now.
Only improvement would be make it work at every bus stop, but that'd require significantly narrowing the...
I would have been 9 when it was taken away from us, and living in Hastings at the time with parents who had no time at all (they worked pretty much every hour running a pub) I never had the chance. I was more interested in cricket then anyway.
I'm not sure how you could better design them. If you run them through the bus lane that causes problems at bus stops. Running them behind the bus stop is probably the best option for everyone concerned.
I've gone through phases of liking and disliking him (not actually related to his time with the other lot), but this has given me an awful lot of respect for the bloke. Being willing to fight for his kids like that and sacrifice so he could maintain a balance between his career and his family...
Is he actually for sale, or are clubs just enquiring? Surely if they're pricing him very high it's because they want to keep him unless they can get way over the odds?
I think we should, yes. I think we need a defender, but not 100% a CB. I'd rather get a LB or RB who can play at CB, but I wouldn't exactly be cross if we get a CB in.
5th choice? Dunk is obviously first, Uwe's ahead of him, but has only played 60 minutes in months, Goldson is still injured, Bruno looks likely to be forced back to his true position as Rosenior seems unlikely to play on Saturday. You could put one of the youngsters ahead of him, but I'd say...
