cities - Paris; beautiful and Berlin. Loved it there. Very relaxed compared to London and Paris, beautiful and fascinating history.

Sydney .
San Sebatastian .
Those Basques have certainly got their priorities right on how to live life .
It has a dominant food culture and I can't think of a better night out than bar-hopping through the historic Parte Vieja .
The city is also blessed with surf beaches and on the doorstep of The Pyrennes & SW France .

Gotta +1 everyone who's said Prague, I loved it so much I moved here. Beautiful weather (most of the year), beautiful women, beautiful beer, beautiful city. The winters are serious though (but great if you're hankering after a "traditional" freezing snowy winter).

Very tough but a few random choices:
St Jean De Luz: memories of a school exchange trip
Bologna; great food
Porto; spent a few days there last year and really liked it
Cephalonia: already mentioned on this thread and a lovely island
Paris; nothing quite like a day just losing yourself walking the streets
Dusseldorf: totally unexpected but was there on business and really liked it

So many good suggestions - I think Belgium is often underrated, Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp, Leuven all cracking places. Venice is right up there for me, one of the few places in the world that have left me gobsmacked.

This thread shows why I could never move to Oz, there's so much culture, history and natural beauty on our doorstep, couldn't ever leave this....

Good call for Lake Magiore and Stresa, spent a v. nice week there before moving on to Siena. Lake Orta was very nice as well, even though Donkey is apparently the local culinary delicacy!

Belgium is a good call.. I lived there for a couple of years, after company I was working for, moved there from Holland.. Was under the impression the place was boring, but far from it. Was a very nice surprise.
