I'll bag for the Maremma area of Tuscany. Typical tuscan countryside with amazing climate, food and wine. Untouched by foreign tourists and great beaches just a short drive down the hills.
Try a little village called Scansano.

Linz, Austria
Basque country - San Sebastian, Bayonne, Saint Jean de Luz.

Flemish Belgium - Ghent, Antwerp

Tuscany

Corsica - Bonifacio is amazing.

Austria is great for scenery but lacks life in towns.

I saw Austria, and thought you lucky git.

But I was thinking of the Tyrol and not Linz.

I love the Alps and always find the Austrians (as well as German, Dutch & Scandy tourists there), to be immensely friendly and fun.

This thread just confirms that I really don't get out enough, most of my trips to the Continent are for boring work reasons and I usually end up in some kind of clone 'businessmans' hotel in the back end of beyond, usually near an industrial estate.

Having said that, I did enjoy my work trips to Bilbao and Grenoble, even if it was just work.

Have visited Chicago for work reasons as well, and would really like to go back as a tourist at some point. Not in Europe I know, but definitely a good destination.

Another vote for Kefalonia. I worked there for 3 years and loved it every time. I did intend to travel and see the world in my job, but ended up returning there time after time because it was so idyllic.

I almost did the same; started adding my favourite places in India, Cambodia and Vietnam, plus New York, before I realised, and hurriedly deleted them prior to posting.
