Quick question chaps. What exactly are you arguing about?

I'm arguing with anyone who is trying to pretend that CKR is of any PROVEN footballing worth to any football team he has ever played for.

And I'm arguing with Arthur's assertion [and Badger's support of it] that the club undersold him.

Basically, I'm just trying to prove Icy Gull wrong, by getting this thread up to 10 pages

Carlton Palmer also transferred for nearly £6m quid in his career so people who know a damn sight more about the beautiful game than you (and possibly me) thought something of the bloke.

CKR is good on the ball, he's a terrier, he's a good finisher, his crossing is not the greatest but neither is Ronaldo's! Above it all he is clearly good enough to play at the top level as he has done in this country, Turkey and now on the world stage.

Now I KNOW you're on a f***ing wind up.

How can you possibly label the LAZIEST footballer in Europe 'a terrier', and a striker with a goal ratio of 3 in 75 a 'good finisher'?

I'm done with you.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
CKR had 66 shots during the relegation campaign according to the football league website. 33 on target, 31 off target and 2 hit the woodwork. He scored six goals which would suggest a success rate of 9%.

So it is TRAGIC for Albion fans, not to applaud the blatent lack of effort and disrespect shown to the club they love, by an arrogant child, who happens to be able to kick a ball straight occasionally, who by a quirk of birthright and disputed European political history has been given the undeserved opportunity for a bit of attention?

No idea but isn't it great.

All trying to outdo each other with their intellectual superiority.

Marvellous stuff

A bit of ott abuse would help my cause

Nowhere in this thread have I said he's a great player. He's good, as is every single player who reaches a European championship, and he's done very well to get where he is. That's what I'm saying. I thought he was good when he played for us, but even at our level not amazing. I think you've slightly misread the thread, because from where I'm standing it's not about how good CKR is/was, it's about the progression he's made and the things he's achieved, and from my point of view the total bitterness some people feel towards him for that. If you want a debate on how good he is as a player, then that's another thread and I'd have another opinion.

How many do you want?...

Well, this thread really does show the TRAGIC attitude some albion fans have towards talent and technique. 22 months ago, CKR was playing for us. Now, he's almost certainly earning six figures a WEEK, he's playing for one of the top clubs in Turkey, he's had a season in the champions league (with another one coming up), and he's in the semi-final, yes the last FOUR, of this CONTINENT'S most prestigious tournament.QUOTE]

Oh well that's the case settled then. Just because he didn't fancy running his arse off he's a total waste of space. Never mind those little known skills such as ball control, pace, vision, and technique. We're not really interested in those afterall. Who would you have in your team? Alex Revell? Kerry Mayo? Dean Hammond?

No, I'm not saying we have to APPLAUD him. Personally, I'm not that bothered by what he does, either tonight or in his career as a whole. If he goes on to play for Real Madrid, good on him, but if his next move is to Chester City, so what? What's tragic is there is still so much BITTERNESS towards a very talented player who left us two years ago. Even if you felt he didn't put the effort in here, which ok, he didn't, then he didn't do anything damaging enough to warrant such jealousy and anger now. Quite the opposite in fact, he left us with a healthier bank balance.

There's probably more but I couldn't bear to read over some of the nonsense again.

I agree with the Badger here. Maybe we were right to get rid of him although he was clearly very talented - although then McGhee still has to take some of the blame for bringing him to the club in the first place. But the bitterness is ridiculous, and Badger's right, any player who might have been quite good but says something slightly out of line gets slated. And it's not just from an attitude point of view, which with CKR and to a degree O'Callaghan I can understand - but people will suddenly insist said players were SHIT and contributed NOTHING while they were here, and that they'd rather have Joe Gatting in the team. I rest my case.

I think we've just been Crodo'd.

:dunce:

Well played Arthur. You actually had me going there.

Yeah, fair play Arthur, you had me too, until that daft mistake of referring to CKR as 'a terrier'. :jester: What were you THINKING?

Right firstly, we bought CKR for £55k and sold him for £425k. What is it that anyone is being 'blamed' for?

Secondly, very few people have ever said O'Callaghan was 'shit'. They may have said he was 'a shit' but that is very different.

CKR, whilst here DID contribute very little. That is fact. And yes, I personally would rather have Gatting in the team. In fact I dislike the little prick so much, that I'd even consider playing with TEN before welcoming him back.

I want to know how on earth CKR is on six figures a week?

Good luck to the lad, he was sold for what we could get for him at the time, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I used to work for David Sullivan when he was a second rate porn merchant and before he launched the Daily Spurt and made his £300m. If I had stayed loyal to him instead of leaving for an office job I today could have been his right hand man and very wealthy myself, but I didn't.

It's very easy to be wise after the event, as the likes of even Mourinho (Kezman), Ferguson (Taibi, Djemba-Djemba, Veron, Jordi Cruyff etc) and Wenger (Francis Jeffers anyone?) will attest in a private moment).

Well maybe McGhee could have spent the coke money on a player he didn't fall out with and still slag off in the press three years later instead.

I can't be arsed to search, but quite a few people did suddenly decide O'Callaghan was useless and of no need to the club when he said what he did. Same thing happened with Hammond.

And as for your last comment... really? You'd rather have a man who's a better cricketer than he is footballer playing for us than someone who'll be playing in a European Championship semi-final tonight? I suppose your ideal lineup would be Kuipers and ten Charlie Oatways (perhaps one for each of his names) then?

You left a job where you could get as much free smut as you wanted? Oh dear El Prez, if you're gonna lie don't tell such massive whoppers as that.
