I thought some of the abuse Henderson was sometimes objected to was appalling. The majority of fans were never going to like him (even though he was a good keeper in my opinion), the criticism he got was completely unjustified.

Well my first instinct is to ask what the f*** Peter Smith qualifies under - flair or effort? I'd have put it down to 'comedy factor':lolol:

As for the rest, well I've only seen the last few. I'm guessing that as you're older, you saw us during the time when we were in the top two flights almost constantly. Therefore we're going to have had better players, and plenty of quality flair players for the fans to like. On the other hand, 11 of my 14 seasons have been in leagues 1 and 2! I'm living in an age when people like Richard Carpenter are supposed 'legends.' That's nothing against Carpenter, I really liked him as a player bar the last few months, but we seem to have a culture now where anyone who plays a couple of hundred games for us is a legend. Overall, I'd say we've had very few flair players who have also been a hit with the fans. Zamora is the only obvious one. People like Brooker were flair, but because he didn't get stuck in the fans didn't take to him. Even Robinson now on a lesser scale. Compare that to the NUMEROUS workers over the last 10-15 years the fans have loved, and you might see why I think the albion fans only love a runner. I'd love us to sign a really talented player, O'Callaghan would have been fine, and just tell the manager to manage him. Afterall that is his job, and if he can't cope with different characters and personalities he's in the wrong one. In answer to your point, I'd say half the reason is we haven't had as many flair players in my time, but I am also convinced the albion fans these days don't like them.

Nah, still disagree. there were plenty of honest workers in the past too [Grealish, Wilson, Mortimer, etc] who were fully deserving of the highest praise, but never got close to the adulation of the flair players of their times - the Penneys or Saunders.

Albion fans are realistic, that's all, but like any others in the country still hold and cherish a skillful player who can beat a defender and score, above all others. They just don't want him to spend the other 89 minutes standing still with his hands on his hips and his bottom lip stuck out.

Players like Zamora don't come along very often.

What I don't understand is why people think a 'flair' player shouldn't still have to do any work? Le Tissier, for all his languid appearance worked his arse off for Southampton. Gillespie at Cheltenham works. Even the diving cheat Ronaldo works hard in big games.

Paying fans are TOTALLY within their rights not to take to a genuinely lazy player, skillful or otherwise.

The idea of Michel in a porn movie is quite incredible. I say get it on nsc asap:clap2:

If you want a copy, I am sure I can arrange to bring some down to the Tank Appreciation evening. I'm even happy to offer one as a raffle prize, makes a difference from a programme signed by Joe Gatting and Dean White.

The idiots known as the 'crocs' are off to Prague. So, with a bit of luck I will be!

If you end up at the same place as I did in Prague, you could end up on the opposite end of the lathering process.

Try explaining THAT to the wife on your return (by wife, I of course mean Zesh in your case:drool:)

"I can't say anything positive about the boy apart from he had potential and he has still got potential. How he is in the Turkey team I don't know

this bit really stands out for me !

The end of that same quote stood out for me; "but their manager has taken them to the last four so he knows what he's doing."

In other words, the Turkey manager (who has history of winning with Galatasaray, among others) knows what he's doing - but McGhee had no f***ing clue.

Well at least he does appear to recognize the facts in front of him.
Unmanageable (except by someone who knows what he is doing).

Is it just me or does this sound like McGhee saying he doesn't know what he is doing? - sounds like sour grapes he failed to get the best out of a player he had and therefore failed.

I think a part of the problem with McGhee's handling of CKR and why it became necessary for him to sell was that McGhee had a particular style of play and the players had to fit into this.

CKR was a striker, who (like all young players with a bit of talent) was trying to maximise his (and every other players short) career, and if McGhee was unwilling to play CKR as a striker, but either as a sub or on the wing, is it a surprise CKR was unhappy and wanted to move on, not because of arrogance.

Wouldn't CKR have only joined us if he believed that by being here, it would benefit his career? (like with Zamora) and by staying here under McGhee as sub it was not going to help his future career. If it was just CKR that had fallen out with McGhee then maybe you could say it was CKR's personality etc... - but there were several players who fell out with the manager.

The manager making comments in the press along the lines of "i have no players here" or his tactics (like dropping the goalscorer in the previous match from the whole squad) would not have helped.

We did get a fee, and make a little money out of his time here, but if he was managed well, then we may have got far more money when he finally left had someone like Adams or Taylor been in charge during his time here.

Both of you are paid to attend football matches. The difference is McGhee has forged a career in football for over 3 decades as a highly successful player and manager, where as you are a weather weary steward with who shares a sofa bed with a pet dog.

Perhaps the board were thinking this about McGhee.

We brought him to Brighton because he had potential but he was impossible to work with.

I can't say anything positive about the old Scot apart from he had potential and he has still got potential to manage untalented players as for talented player forget it he can't handle there egos. How he ever managed a team above league 1 baffles me.

I say Good luck CKR and i don't blame him for leaving.

.........apart from taking us to our highest finishing position for 16 years and generating a £3m transfer surplus

But if McGhee had actually fulfilled his potential, (or just been able to manage players TO GET THE BEST OUT OF THEM) then we may have finished even higher still or recieved far more in transfer fees, ie, if he had handled CKR better, could we have got more than the £150k we got for him (we may have still recieved a sell on fee on a transfer with a higher fee)
