Five Offered New Deals
Posted on: Tue 06 May 2008

By Paul Camillin

Sussex Senior Cup hero Scott Chamberlain is amongst five players offered extended contracts by Albion ahead of the 2008/09 season.

Wes Fogden, Doug Loft, Sam Gargan and goalkeeper John Sullivan have also been told they will be offered new contracts with the club this summer.

Chamberlain, who was a major player in Bognor Regis Town's survival in the Blue Square South this season, has been handed a new six-month deal by Albion.

Fogden, who skippered the reserves in the Senior Cup success and also helped the Rocks ensure their survival, will be offered a new one-year deal. He broke into the first team this season, after recovering from major back surgery in 2006.

Striker Gargan, who recently made his first-team bow at Bristol Rovers, Loft and Sullivan will all be offered similar terms.

Albion's eight second-year scholars will also learn their fate this afternoon, with an announcement expected on seagulls.co.uk in the next 24 hours.

if we dont manage to bring in at least one decent left back, wilkins might look pretty foolish with his decision to release the three recognised players who can play there

Stop going on about strength in depth! We have three months to sign players. We might sign TEN for all you know! Your idea of keeping players on simply because we might not be able to sign replacements is NOT a healthy one!

What?

Of course that's not going to be our squad come the first game! Just pointing out that we now HAVE to make a load of signings, which is great.

I just hope we don't waste this opportunity signing poor 'back-ups' who are no more use than the people released! E.g swapping Dixon for Elder!

I don't think I should bring msn chats to nsc as they make me look irrational:D

Yeah, but you take me the wrong way.

I don't have a problem with the older ones being released, I just worry that we make a hash of replacing them and get a load more crap in!

Of course, it could work the other way and we turn into a team of superstars!

I just think it's a pretty bold move to get rid of so many - but if the management and board can back it up by making some inspired signings, then there's really nothing to worry about!

Suprised Fogden's been offered a new contract and VERY suprised that Chamberlain has been offered anything.
What surprises me about Chamberlain is how few chances he's had in two years. Most of the times I've seen him were before he signed pro, but he always looked a good player to me. Central midfield is not an easy player for a player from the youth to break in to but he's barely even been on the bench that I can remember. He's been given 6 months so hopefully he can make an impact in that time, but it's hard to see after none in two years.

i remember him coming on ONCE - away at bristol city in the paint pot, and he looked our second best midfielder that night. not really hard though when the competition was carpenter
