EVERYWHERE you look now it says snow over a three day period, heaviest on Monday. Someone needs to tell these people they're going to end up looking silly because US has come out and stated it won't snow. So it obviously wont.

More chance of this happening monday than at any other time of the winter.

I know, i'm going to look a right lemon. Oh well, at least i based my forecast on the available model data and not seaweed.

We may get a few flakes of sleet or snow but we will nto get any disruption as in this part of the country we do not get snow. Period. Not anymore. The snow will be in the East Anglia, Kent and up to Hastings. Also the met office are upgrading temperature already from 1C to 3C on Sunday and from 0C to 2C on Mondayonly falling to 1C on Monday night and 5C onTuesday. So any precipitation will not lay anyway. This supposed cold snap will be over by Wednesday anyway.

A huge fuss about absolutely nothing. Quite Pathetic really. People in Canada would look at this hype and laugh. OH they may be a flake of snow and half and inch on snow on the top of the Downs. Help !. " Lets get to the supermarket today dear and stock up on essential items as we may not get out of the house next week !. Check the car wheel snow chains we brought in Austria in 1978 are still in the garage dear ".

Met Office: Shoreham-by-Sea: forecast weather

Still looks rather cold/wintery to me. 0C and 40mph gusts will feel like -10C. Unpleasant.

These charts are for Monday evening.

This one shows cold.

This one shows precipitation (of either snow or rain).

All that's lacking is a layer of cold enough air between the surface and about 1km up. For snow, this plot should show at least -5C over us, and -10C is ideal. As you can see, it's touch and go between snow and cold rain.

Having said all of that, I'd trust the Met Office model over the American one that these plots are from, so it's very much still up in the air (although whatever happens snow-wise, the wind for the next few days will be BITTER).

You can't ignore the next 3 days which are a cold snap to prove a point!

Saturday: Max of 6 (average for this time of year), which with a wind of 30mph gusts will feel like -2. Fairly cold.
Sunday: Max of 1 (unseasonably cold), which with gusts of 40mph will feel like -8 (as the MAXIMUM remember). Bitterly unpleasant.
Monday: Max of 2 (still well below normal), which will feel like -5C with the wind (staying indoors weather).

Tuesday is the end of the cold SNAP (not a long outbreak, just a short wintry blast), so showing it as 6/4 (which is normal rather that warm) doesn't go towards showing there's no SNAP.

And you can't base any of your arguments on what the Express/Sun/BBC/etc say with regards to the length and severity of any weather event (if the Express had their way, the storm of the century would be coming along every couple of weeks...).

The actual forecasts have been surprisingly consistent for this kind of setup, so slightly warmer by Tuesday is not a revelation.

Severe weather warning now in place for the entire South East. Locally 5-10cm and upto 20cm on higher grounds.

the problem at the moment is that this is a classic 'knife edge' situation, where a difference of 50 miles either way will give either rain or heavy snow. It all hinges on how far west the low pressure coming off france gets, as that allows warmer upper air to advect into the se of the uk, turning the snow to rain. The models are struggling to get a grips with this, so anything is possible next week.

Please please let there be lots and lots of snow. Preferably enough to totally screw up the trains so I can *ahem* work from home for a couple of days.
