Can someone explain team cycling to me?

Chin stroking time:-

That's how the mountains are categorised.

The mountain 'cat' number 4 -3 -2 -1 - HC, is representative of the gear a car would use to drive up it.

4th cat = a 4th gear minor hill/elevation.
1st cat = a tough mountain.

HC - Hors catégorie (Beyond classification) = You ain't getting a car up there.

Great analogy which I hadn't heard of, thx. When I rode up Elm Grove from Queens Park Rd over to Woodingdean, mapmyride said it was cat 5, which is probably correct, 5th gear would be ok going past the race course. I haven't driven up Elm Grove or Box Hill for a long time but going by this analogy suspect they are cat 3/4 hills, would that be correct?

It's not an analogy.
That is how the mountains were categorised throughout the early part of the 20th century.
There's no such thing as cat 5.

Box Hill is cat 4, at best.

Crucial time for Team GB.
Anyone without a good few minutes lead, before the end of Box Hill, won't win, and it'll be a sprint finish.

GB will want to keep the lead group up the road, till Box Hill is over with.

I genuinely have no idea whats going on, but everyone keeps saying team GB in a good position, so that'll do for me.

After Box Hill there's 50kms fairly flat with a tail wind.

Team GB will expect to bring back any time gap under 5 mins.
As it's currently only a couple of minutes happy days.

Nibali and Gilbert are dangers to have them back having put a lot of effort in is great.

Have I had a long blink.
Is there 1 or 2 groups up the road?

Nibali and Gilbert are the main men to have under control.

Boonen will be next.

Gilbert will put some serious time in, up BH for the last time.
He just won't get the minutes he needs. (Hopefully)
