I liked it when the South and North stand at The Goldstone did the cross arm waving at each other. Now that would look good between the Stands at the Amex. Bring back retro stuff.
About 1974 and as we were still at school the landlord prefered to sell us halves at 10p. Prices increased quickly in the few years after that and there was horror when a pint cost a quid. It was good paying less than 2 quid at Burnley this year.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters were responsible for giving us the amusing sight of Palace fans fleeing on their hands and knees. I like them and I like their City.
We saw high away attendances at the Amex last year because we were a new ground. Expect the numbers to drop for most visiting teams this season. Same for us, perhaps. Burnley was only last April and was probably a new ground for many. Clearly not so many wanted to go back so soon...
The Croydon/Mitcham skins & punks came down in a coach when Sham played at the New Regent at the bottom of West Street. The Bosun "soul boys" caught up with them outside and saw them on their way!
I thought Birmingham away was a very good day out, despite having to avoid the march that was on in town. The Birmingham fans we met in the City and in Digbeth were decent and I hope we play them next year.
I am going for a good day out. But football has to sort itself out regarding the quids it is charging. Particularly when it is so over-priced like this game.
Most violent = West Ham at a Service Station in the late 70's because they had weapons. Most intimidating = Spurs away in 78. Most charging about = Bury away 77ish. Many games were called off. Bolton, Man City and Hastings Cockney Reds turned up and you could walk round the ground. Hastings...
I was talking to some Newcastle fans in there last night about 10pm. They thought it was amazing. Everyone was steaming, people were dancing to Motown. Where else do you get that!
