Not trying to be aggressive, just trying to put things in to perspective. This country does have a lot of faults, but compared to MANY other countrys out there, we aren't so bad off.

Thanks for the welcome

If this country is so shit and full of all the bad things you mention, what the hell you still doing here?

Take a leaf out of your own book and take your family to Sudan or Iraq to live, then come back moaning about how shit britain is.

Welcome Newbie, it seems Digweed's rant has dragged another lurker into the world of NSC.

it is still a decent proposition if

1. you have a 25% deposit to get an half decent mortgage rate
2. the rental income at least covers the mortgage and related costs
3. you take a long term view, at least 5 years

Not when the rental income for the next 2 or 3 years is outweighed by the depreciation.
Do I detect a vested interest?

Why do people seem to think they have a right to buy a property and get on the property ladder? There will always be poor people who have to rent or live in boxes under bridges. If you are one of these people either rent or seek better paying employment to enable you to buy a house. But for fucks sake do it quietly and stop whining on about "I can't afford a house" "my children can't afford a house" etc

Indeed, there will always be POOR people who can't buy a property. Trouble is at the moment in Sussex a young couple with a combined income as high as 50k would be struggling to get on the ladder? I'd hardly consider myself poor but the amount my mortgage would cost (if I could even get one) would be crippling! What planet do you live on? :glare:

If you measure wealth by ability to get a mortgage and buy a house, then I am afraid you must be poor.

Theres many things I'd like to buy, but I can't afford them. Should I therefore whine about the high prices of said items or get a cheaper alternative or make do without? Take this lunchtime when I only had £2 in my pocket. I wanted a Big Mac meal, but made do witha cheese topped bap from co-op and a bottle of cheap water. I resisted the temptation to blame the government or speculators and put up with my lot.

Wise words.

I only had 50p in my pocket so I went back to my £1m home and made myself a sandwich at lunchtime. You'll be pleased to know I didn't blame anybody for my lack of cash except myself.

Seriously? Is that your arguement? I think we can safely ignore your opinion on this subject then! :dunce:
