We're a nation built on racism thats why we've spent many centuries fighting other races.

Well every nation is built of some form of racism.

Even Pakistan.

One thing Iv'e not yet mentioned is that when Pakistan plays out here in the cricket they are often reffered to as the "Pakis".

So I guess because we never use the term to demean them but merely to shorten their name like we might with the Lankans, the Windies etc they don't seem to take any offence to it at all.

I view a lot of this so called racism in the same way I view a things like homophobia, I often wonder if people on the recieving end of it are quite as offended as people lead us to believe or whether they're just encouraged to be by the PC brigade.

I see your point. Some people are going to be deeply offended and others not. For example, one of the Argus bods said that Falmer was peaceful and tranquil but only if you were hard of hearing. A variety of letters ensued from people demanding an apology. I thought it was funny, personally.

However, racial intolerance, attacks and so on are far too common for modern day society. Ignorance breeds contempt and it is much more sensible to treat terms like paki with the contempt they deserve.

I guess a perfect example of that recently which even made our news over here was the whole Big Brother incident with that Bollywood actress.

Just reading off this article

It seems the PC brigade made a bigger incident out of it that it was and alot of people overeacted massively and yet the Indian lass who if it was all true and should have been most offended by it seemed to think it wasnt really racist.

It's going to be more common in modern society Bof because we have far more culture's living in this country than we ever have before, And it's very easy for the PC brigade to treat any spat between people of different culture's as racially motivated.

I would say that while anyone who uses the term "paki" may not be deliberately hateful to other races than their own, they would without doubt be a simpleton. Along with anyone who uses the term "PC Brigade" or the favourite "PC Gone Mad".

:)
