True enough but some words are far more likely to cause offense than others.

Dear dear dear - I have been jumping through hoops to get a RESIDENCY permit. I am Australian. Always have been always will.

Would it have been easier to get UK citizenship?

Its all the same process. I suppose I can at some point hand in my Australian passport and get a UK one, but personally in my heart of hearts that feels wrong as I think there is a big difference between Citizen and resident. I think I'll have to become a citizen if I wish to hold a UK passport, but I'm happy to keep my Australian one thanks and to come and go as I wish, and for Zef to be offered the same in return in Australia.

I may be wrong in my terminology of various status' but personally I'm happy with being a resident.
