I would say it isn't.

In this country every Asian is deemed or called a "paki"

And I think they're all used to it, and don't take offence to it

the really funny (as in stupid dumb arse) thing about this is that many asians would find it offensive because you are lumping "them" all together. a sikh or hindu would certainly take offense to be considered a muslim, which most pakistanis are. "Paki" might be used amongst asians, but not in the context "******" might be used amongst blacks, more how you might use "****" or such towards your rowdy close mates.

The world is full of people with all kind of different skins.

Those being the thick skinned, and the other being the thin skinned.

Goin by these people who say Paki is a racist terms reasoning the following could also be considered racist "Paddy", "Jock", "Taffy", "Ginger ****", "Fenian" because all these terms have been used by others in detrimental manners towards certain peoples of other cultures.

Or maybe people won't consider this racist because these people are white.

Hmmm. I'm not so sure about this one Tyrone. A collective 'handle' doesn't always have to have negative racist connotation. As the aforementioned 'Brit', or scouser, Manc, geordie, and etc. e.g.; "my friend Pete is a Taff, he comes from Swansea" - better-by-far than, for instance; "I know Jeetan, he's a paki"
If, in international company, I were always referred to as "the island monkey" or "the GeeBee" (as les froggies have been known to like calling us Britishers), I might - after a little while of that - point out that my name would be preferred to such flippant general slang terms.
When I was living in Germany, for instance, I was seeing a girl who's 'clique' (pronounced 'clicker' over there) had a couple of repugnant snobby sorts, who would call me 'der auslander' (the foreigner). Now when you take a social situation where someone is even slightly pissed off with you for being not-of-their-race, you have to say that ANY categorizing is just rude, and done to make sure you will not feel at home.

Just ignore him on this one NMH - it saddens me how many of my countrymen are racists whilst vehemently denying it...they actually believe wholeheartedly that they are are not....:nono:

You really are very, very stupid aren't you. It is a clueless sweeping generalisation that you have in relation to 'they', reducing a whole continent to a small area of it. It's bit like calling everyone from the UK 'pikeys' simply because you have once been to Selhurst.

That's an almost perfect definition of racism or prejudice - "they are all the same". No, they are all individuals.

It clearly is racist because there is no reason to use it except in a derogatory sense. People talk about context, but since there's no reason to ever use the word, how can there be any context when it is not offensive?

Generally it is, very rare when the term is not used as part of a derogatory statement. Sorry but it's nothing like calling a Welshman a 'Taff' or a Scotsman a 'Jock'.

Robdinho - spot on. It is only ever used in a derogatory way or by people to ignorant to bother to make the distinction.

Some of the debate here could be clarified if there was a distinction drawn between racism and racial prejudice. Not the same thing at all.

We all have some degree of racial prejudice towards someone - i defy anyone on here to claim that they don't. However, being racist, ie openly against one race (or colour group) is an altogether different thing.

Some people who we might tend to deem racist are probably in fact extremely prejudiced.

Why can't we just all anyone who has a slap of the tar brush 'darkies' and that way, problem solved, as it is is non specific, as it applies to everyone that you don't want as a next door neighbour (due to smell of curry, drugs or possessing a bigger willy than you)

How exactly was I being racist?

By pointing out that other terms used can be taken as being similar to the term "Paki" and yet raise no such debate?

You see it's your kind of misguided PC attitude that has actually ruined Australia, you can't have a debate about any kind of foreign influence without some left wing plonker screaming racism.

There was a very interesting comment today in the Herald Sun which highlights the stupidity of these PC idiots in Australia and how they turn a bit of friendly banter into something more sinister.

In regards to things said at the cricket, some stupid left wing woman was rubbishing on about racist yobbos, and then a breath of fresh air in the form of an Indian gentleman who's the head of the Victoria Indian Association stated he doesnt feel someone saying "curry muncher" is overly offensive and if someone does find it offensive then they are pretty weak.

To that man i say bravo.

But truly i can't take you very seriously.

Because it very much seems that you are the kind of person who would have hypocritical double standards tucked away there somewhere.

Possibly the kind of person who's laughed at an Irish joke and yet been offended by one told about a Jew or maybe an Aboriginal.

No I just have enough respect to understand that a Pakistani finds it racist to be called a Paki, so therefore I respect his position and don't use it. Not "misguided pc" or whatever you waffled on about - just respect.
