In the New York post the otherday there was an article claiming the Bush Gov refused to sell/give the Israelis the refeulling planes and bunker busting bombs that they need to do the job.
If this is true and The new president turns out to be pretty wet then I reckon it'll be a nuclear war in 5 years. Ive always thought that Iran would be bombed by now but that hasn't happened, yet.
Its no way the same as the cold war or india/pakistan. Youve got a Revolutionary Theocratic state up against a survivalist state with a seige mentality. anything could happen.

A nuclear conflict, especially in a confined theatre like this, is a war no-one can win - so what purpose does it serve?
Iran, should it really wish to wipe Israel off the map (which would include, of course, the slaughter millions of Muslims) would need more weapons and means of delivery than it currently has, and these take years to stockpile.

Yes but it ended the conflict.A country that was prepared to fight to the death the Yanks had no choice really.200,000 or so people killed instead of millions.

a member of the revolutionary council said that Islam would survive a nuclear conflict, israel wouldn't. I view it in those terms.
It does appear to me that shia's in general and Iranians in particular are the equivelant of Evangelical milleniumists(if that makes sense to you).
It also depends if Israel see them as that as well as they'll shoot first ask questions later. Iran has been developing rockets with longer and longer ranges, its only a matter of time imo.

I'm not sure Islam would survive in the same form if Iran did nuke Israel back to the Biblical era, especially if they are seen to be massacaring their own people in the process.
You're mainly talking about the nutters that rule these countries. The reality is that Iran/Persia has had, for far longer than Europe has ever had, some of the finest scientists, artists, craftsmen, poets and engineers the world has ever seen who embrace wisdom, love and respect (I'll stop there, I'm not a hippie).
Blowing the shit out of Israel is not the kind of Islamic consideration I would ever associate with these Persians.
