I never dared enter The Compton, go to the Couch sometimes. Absaloutley no atmosphere in there at all. The last time I was in there they were playing a pirate dvd of Ghost Rider on their telly.

I won a fancy dress competition in the Compton Arms as a 9 year-old.

I was dressed a punk rocker complete with coloured, spiky hair, (false) piercings, and big braces.

My mate, who was runner-up, came as a tramp. He was wearing a black bin liner.

He must have been gutted considering only the two of you entered.

I think he is still there, in the same clothes.

The Field of Uck
The Cobbler's Thumb - awful beer

The Snipe (been boarded up for a while now - it may be closed or are they just fed up with re-glazing the place every week?!)

Wetherspoon's (could be any one, in any town, in any part of the country!)

We were the two front runners.

One of the other kids came as Robinson Crusoe because he had a hole in his jeans.

My prize was an England World Cup 82 goody bag

don't do bars much but in terms of pubs I certainly won't be doing 'The Seafield' or 'The Bell' in Hove in a hurry
Nothing wrong with The Bell ( The Belfast) or The Forager (The Sterling)

whats The New Bush like, my dad and his mates own it and transfored it from a restaurant to a pub. Not in the best of locations but at least they've banned the local yobs.

Never been in since it's been opened, and just wanted to know if anyone had been in there yet?

Do they know the previous owners, Jenny and Brian? Lovely couple, liked their booze tho and have hit hard times now.

It's not the one on a corner that used to be the Candy Bar is it?

The only pubds I can think of on that side of St James Street are the Tin Drum, old Candy Bar, The Oak and the Bulldog.

The Ranelagh Arms, the Zone are two more I can think of.

Think this survey depends on what you mean by "worst".

If you're talking complete khazis- rough, run down, music-stops-playing-when-a-stranger-walks-in type establishments, then it'd have to be the Snipe, the Hikers' Rest and the Northern Tavern (before the most recent closure, obviously).

On the other hand, there's very little to recommend over-priced, pretentious efforts like Saqqara on North Street (or whatever its latest incarnation is), being as they are full of drunken banshees on hen nights, paying £5.20 a pop for cocktails.

And the fact that Yates's is a hell hole, goes without saying.

Havent been in there for years but know the company that owns it. The same company own The Good Companions and The Winner I bet the seats need repairing as most of their pubs the decor is attrocious and when they do them up they spend very little money and the pub doesnt look much better just a lick of paint.

They used to have manager there, about 3 years ago, named Stan a West Ham fan a right nob end. I did a relief for him at a pub that he managed in Maidstone.
