Worthing
if you ignore (whats left of) the sussex bars, then the Hiker's Rest could be one of the Famler stadium pre match venues...

one for the away crowd, methinks.

Anyone who hasn't put the Seafield down has not been to the Seafield.

Worst pub in Sourthern England, let alone Brighton and Hove. :(

Popped in there last night prior to my excellent ruby at the Hove Tandoori, I can confirm it is the shittest pub in the world.....probably.

If you're talikng about Sue then she left The Grennie months ago. Its now run by two rug munchers and has gone downhill big time.

Id say the worst are The Nevill, The Station & Weatherspoons.

how could it go down hill after that moody cow left

Surely there must be some pubs in Woodingdean, White Hawk and Mouslecombe that are proper shit house.

There's only one pub in Moulsecoomb - the Bevendean Hotel - it used to be my local.

It's all right, just the place to go if you want to buy hooky gear, I remember going there after our video recorder was robbed, hoping to buy it back.

But I've spent many a Saturday night in there and it's a perfectly reasonable pub.

Bevendean has neither a pub or a church. A God forsaken backwater, it will even lose it's own bus number tomorrow.

Shame I live there. If only i could return to the paradise of my birth, Coldean.

Look forward to drinking in The hikers enroute to Falmer. Great idea to have it a pub for away fans :lolol:

The Dyke Road Tavern is unattractive enough from the outside but once in there, the will to live gradually ebbs away.

Although if it wasn't where it was, I wouldn't care if I never set foot in The Sportsman either. The last time we made a pre-match visit on a freezing cold day I recall a quite pointless altercation about hats.

Despite wearing the most boring of hats that did nothing to conceal our faces but everything to keep our heads warm, we were in breach of a "Hats Off" directive apparently. So I was rudely told, on the doorstep, that I could take my hat off or do the other thing. Had we not arranged to meet people in the pub I'd have willingly chosen the second option.

Blimey. That just about sums up the crappiness of The Sportsman, a 'pub' of no redeeming qualities other than it's next to the ground. What a waste of space. Literally.

Going back to the other thread on what makes a pub; The Sportsman is NOT a pub but a family restaurant which happens to sell beer (& not particularly good beer at that). This does not make it a pub in my view.

Lets face it, if you are going out for a night to the pub; you would not choose the Sportman, in a million years.

If you are taking youngish children for a meal you may well go there as I did when my kids were small but thank god, not anymore.

Good point, well made. It's a fact that if you want to have a drink and a meal in a pub in Brighton & Hove and have young kids with you, then your options are strictly limited. Black Lion at Patcham used to be about the only one that sprung to mind. Really can't understand anybody who gives The Sportsman the time of day at home matches when there's loads of decent boozers nearby. But each to their own, aye?

The Oak? Is it BLUE?

If so, you're right, it's SHITHOUSE and WELL scary.

I used to go there alot, It is not scary and far from a shithouse.
It is deceptive and has a few iffy characters but which pub doesn't, but book cover analogy etc.
The subtle sense of humour was great, it takes a few visits to appreciate the real regulars, Albion pub to.
It is still a 'locals' pub in the middle of 'daytripper' pubs.
This is probably why in one visit you could not appreciate, as many of the people you saw will never go there again.
Many regulars very intellectual under the surface veneer.
The ones I knew ranged from local business owners to broadsheet newspaper editors.
All had depth and very knowledgeable.
Had some great laughs there. :(

The Pickwick was a dump in the old days, overpriced beer and shocking service.
