But the majority of people in this country are against the death penalty?

If they were for it, it wouldn't make it right.

What if the majority believe that people with purple eyes should be the slaves of everyone else.

Pure democracy is dangerous.

But you can't say we only kill murderers and paedophiles who actually plead guilty, who admit their crimes, every criminal would say they didn't do it, as 99% of them do anyway.
Many guilty people, murderers and paedophiles included, say they didn't do and lie in court to try and get away with it, you could not kill them?
I think you are confusing me with someone in favour of capital punishment.

They raped a 14 year old f***ing boy.

As soon as you do that, you lose all rights to be treated as a human.

About 30 years ago, a 6-year-old twin boy was raped in this area. My own boy was 4 years old at the time and I was sickened by that. Poor little blighter had more than 30 stitches, so I understand. I believe the rapists were never found. What on earth goes through people's heads?

Ahh the old referendum or is referendiiii whatever.

I got a new one which wasnt probably asked at the time, would you support the killing of the man that raped, murdered and dumped xxxxx last weekend ?

Its just a matter of wording and exposure and we can bring back public hangings in no time.

We have been fed the reasons why the death penalty might be problematic and uncivilised for so long what do you expect, even I think I recognise difficulties when I probably I shouldn't.

Do you remember the Euro, its the way forward supposedly, or have I missed something ......

I was just making the point in the British Justice System has to treat everyone the same, the fact Brady has admitted his crimes does not make a difference as many guilty people so not admit their crimes

Also, sometimes people who are not of sound mind will confess to a crime they did not commit. The pressure on the police to catch the culprit predisposes them to welcome a confession, especially if no other leads are forthcoming.

Even an admission of guilt is not always absolute evidence of guilt.

The majority of this country have always been against the Euro? Yes I am sure you could get a different result on any vote of you bring in passion, show some pictures of victims, you could do it that way.

A wee bit 'Life on Mars' there ..surely modern day forensic supersedes much of the written confession these days.

Exactly I bet some people who say Brady is totally guilty because he admitted it would also say he is totally nuts. They would accept anything he says about himself and his crimes but I bet they would not want him in a court testifying in their defence?

A good debate mate. You have put a decent case forward but I disagree. Have a good evening.

It is good to read a couple of posts on here dispelling the myth that Prison is easy, certainly the higher category ones are not and particularly the older Victorian style types. I was obliged to visit these in connection with my job and although I consider myself pretty worldly I always felt the very oppressive and grim atmosphere. OK the days of 'slopping out' may have passed but the thought of being confined there was chilling.

Punters forget that many inmates have drug problems and may be Hepatitis and HIV positive or all three. Many have psychological issues and invariably some will be under 24 hour watch in case they self harm. It seemed to me that the hospital wings were always fairly full of rather sad people who are in a real mess.

Should the offenders in a horrific child rape case get sent down it will almost certainly be common knowledge within the Prison what offences they have been found guilty of and they will then experience a really difficult time. Ok some prisons have segregated wings for sex offenders but that merely draws attention to their background. You can imagine the rest. I don't think you would sleep well at night wondering if someone has got it in for you.

I admire people who work in such environments and am always surpriied how many female prison staff and nurses there are within male Prisons. I am sure they are capable but not sure I would want to do that job.

Not wanting the death penalty doesn't mean you condone or sympathise with the criminal. It just means you don't want to live in a society where state sanctioned murder is acceptable.

To you and me maybe not.

But to criminals its a breeze, I know I have been told.

However these brutal sexual paedophiles it is irrelevant, their only thought is how they might meet their next sordid sexual fix, preferably involving one of our children.

I heard they were disguising themselves as schools to sneak up on children.
