Trump had no political background when elected in 2016. Both Hilary and Harris have credible and impressive political CVs. Trump has celebrity though.

I think Harris's problem was one of not expecting to be a candidate until 2028, then only having the best part of 3 months to try to convey what she's about and how she would be different from the current President. That was a huge ask for anyone.
That wasn't my point. The point was that Peter Ward suggested that Biden won but Harris and Clinton lost because Harris and Clinton are women; I believe that Biden was a much more credible candidate than Clinton or Ward and that's why he won.

I can't agree. Everyone of us Brighton fans would vote for Peter Ward over any of those candidates. ;)

We'd definitely have him in number 10 (and all the other numbers if the song is to be believed).

Surely as VP for nearly 4 years she should have been spending much of her time watching what Biden was doing, learning from him, and thinking about what she would do the same or differently? The VP has few executive powers, her primary function was to be the "spare" ready to step in.

Yes, but up until July Biden was still standing and she was going to be doing another 4 years as VP if he won. It wasn't until July she had to convince the America people she had been thinking of what she would do differently and communicate that in a campaign. The VP is there to step in on the ticket they were elected on together, she has only had 3 months to step out of that role and sell what she would do as president. As I previously said, that was a tough ask.

What worries me even more than Trump's election is the prospect of Vance becoming President if Trump should die or be incapacitated.

Ironically, really, given that over the past 8 years we've had a Tory government with - at any given time - about 6-10 Cabinet ministers eager, willing and ready to wield the knife, step in and become PM.

Trump’s term will have finished 5-6 months before the U.K. goes to the polls in 2029. You’d also imagine that Labour will get their tough budgets out of the way in the first 2-3 years, then have a couple of give-away budgets to make everyone feel a bit better by the time they’re trying to get re-elected.

A Farage win can’t be discounted all the while we’ve got FPTP though. I’d be much happier if we had PR to prevent the right-wing getting power
Power, perhaps. But Reform would have had around 90 MPs with PR.

He wasnt involved in starting one war during his last term. In fact I think the only president in living memory not to be in the thick of starting/funding one. Why will it be different this time?
He hasn't started any since winning the 2024 election - so it's a bright start so far.....

I wonder now what odds you'd get on a Farage GE win in 2029?

With neo fascist populist bro in Washington, Musks money and his disinfo machine X pointing at the UK, you can bet those forces will be employed to help Farage.
Unfortunately I think we will see Farage as PM in the next few years.

And Musk will be in the mix.

Christ. It’s like a bad Pierce Brosnan Bond film.

Trump is due to be sentenced in New York 26th November. He can’t pardon himself until he is sworn in, in January, so various scenarios are open to the judge.

Seeing a lot of the same mistakes as we saw during Brexit, calling those that voted for it thick rather than understanding the reasons a scumbag like Trump can win

All during the campaign the media was calling him scum and his supporters trash, that is not going to change minds

Topped off with Biden calling his supporters trash.
Yes, it's clear that the truth hurts, but who knows - Trumps tenure may be a smashing success a la Brexit.
(Not that I care, as I plan on cleaning-up by buying shares in white sheets, pointy hats and Tango.)

The founding fathers never conceived that a criminal or a man without honour would have had the gall to stand for office so, nothing was written in to prevent it.

Fast forward and we now have a felon as President backed by the majority of Supreme Court judges, the Senate and the House of Representatives...
And the majority of his citizens it would seem

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Although Vance's political thinking is a bit more organised and unpleasant than Trump's mercurial scattergun nonsense, the moment that Trump is gone, the entire Repulican party will be fighting like rats in a bag. Vance would be chewed up and spat out quicker than you could say "Kevin McCarthy" and it'll all collapse with more back stabbing than the end of a Shakespearean tragedy. The extreme right, like the extreme left, actually despise each other far more than they do the rest of us. Without a daddy figure they'll be as effective and successful in their aims as Man Utd without Alex Ferguson.

The result is actually a lot closer than it feels. There are 4 states to declare of which she's almost certain to get Maine. That means despite everything else, in the rust belt if she'd had managed to take 1.2% of Trump's vote in Pennsylvania, 0.9% of his vote in Michigan and 0.5% of his vote in Wisconsin she'd have won.

As "Nige" would say - "If it was that close, I'd like a re-vote".
