The result is actually a lot closer than it feels. There are 4 states to declare of which she's almost certain to get Maine. That means despie everything else, if she'd had managed to take 1.2% of Trump's vote in Georgia and Pennsylvania, and 0.5% of his vote in Wisconsin she'd have won.
As "Nige" would say - "If it was that close, I'd like a re-vote".

He didn't say that he'd start them. He said that he'd cause them. Virtually every war that has started post WWII has been connected with a scrabble for territory and / or the associated resources. No country is innocent, but a climate denial approach will accelerate the fight for diminishing natural resources and see more mass displacement of people. Wars will follow.
Thank you 🙏🏼

Trump is due to be sentenced in New York 26th November. He can’t pardon himself until he is sworn in, in January, so various scenarios are open to the judge.

He can't pardon himself for State convictions, only Federal ones.

I can certainly see the attraction in being told that he will bring back the good old days. But he said that last time and simply didn't do it. So putting myself in those shoes I would be asking what was going to be different this time.

What I do get is wanting something different to the usual candidate, candidates that have made f*** all difference to one's life. And like you say someone comes along and promises better, it makes sense. What I struggle with is why they think that Trump is going to be different (see also, Farage). Worth a shot though I suppose. What's the worst that can happen?

I hope that your last para is right and it does make things better for your average American. I fear though that it will make the square root of f*** all difference to them and all the difference to Trump, Musk and the rest of them.
Real wage growth 2016-2020 vs. Last 4 years.
Levels of Inflation and Interest Rates
Peace Accords vs. Wars
Secure Borders vs. Open Borders
"Elites" and MSM shoving shite down the throats of ordinary people

Whether you like it or not, and most on here will not, it is lazy to overlook the facts that matter when people compare how they feel about their lives, their country, their prospects under 45 vs. 46.

Alot of you suffocate your own brains with tedious TDS. I don't expect that is likely to change, but introspection is always better than denial.

It depends how he ends the Russian - Ukraine war. If he pulls all military and humanitarian support from Ukraine, and stops Russian sanctions, and if Europe doesn't step up to the void, vand if Ukraine is then forced to give up all currently occupied land... do you think Russia will stop there? I don't, and many military experts don't either.
It is quite likely Russia will re-arm, will continue to threaten or invade the rest of Ukraine again, in a few years. Trouble/ invasion of Moldova, Georgia, Baltics is also quite likely IMO.
This (well the latter) may not happen until after Trump's term (if it's his last) - so he may proudly say no war started under his presidencies, but his actions may lead directly to further wars.
I think we'll see a land grab from Putin to establish the borders which Ukraine will have no choice but to accept as the US withdraws support. Putin will bathe in the glory of victory and wait and watch NATO be weakened before he makes his next move.

We could also see a situation where the brutal Iranian theocracy look like the adults in the room compared with Israel and the US; internationally if not domestically.

Power, perhaps. But Reform would have had around 90 MPs with PR.
Yes, 90 MPs out of 650. Not really going to make much of a difference, in the governence of the country is it? Besides, why would you deny the 14-15% their representation?

There's a tipping point in FPTP where you start to win a disproportionate number of seats. Would you feel so happy about our system if Reform got into the low 30s and won a majority?

A Brief History of (My) Time:

0 - 6 years old; Thought America was 'great'.
7 - 14; Nasa/moon landings etc...still thought the same and would loved to have lived there.
14 - 20; Increasingly concerned by their gun culture - which had seemed 'exciting' as a kid.
20 - 40; Getting a little despondent, although a brief flurry of renewed hope during Glasnost/fall of Berlin Wall.
40 - 60; Utterly depressed by the gun culture/mass shootings and increasingly evident racism....and of course, the election of Trump.
60 - ? f*** me, Trump gets re-elected, realise that the majority of Americans truly 'are' stupid (no change from previous concerns), would never want to live there under any circumstances and have zero desire to even visit the damned place.

Congratulations on failing your IQ test, today, America.

I work with a few Americans and the general feeling is people are fed up of their cost of living, groceries etc and they only voted based on him “fixing” the economy, all the other stuff like abortions came a distant second and the democrats didn’t really say much about fixing the economy also the stuff the democrats pushed like abortions people want to know why they haven’t already done something about it.

The Pew Research Center say 39% of Americans believe they are 'living in the end times'

A lot of Republicans are obsessed with religion so I guess they are not too concerned about polluting the world or running up massive debt because they believe they will be miraculously raptured away to paradise in the not too distant future.

Yep, hence the massive increase in 'Flat Earthers', 'Moon-Landing Deniers', 'Firmament' and basically anything which involves science.
The country (as a whole) is regressing.

US inflation has been below 4% for the past 18 months, ours lasted 6 month longer and they had stronger economic growth to counter it. They're effing idiots

Given Trump's age and the fact he seems to be rapidly losing his marbles I thought it might be time to re-post this

Was it a federal or state crime?

If federal he could still pardon himself from jail as soon as in power.

fwiw he won't now go to jail.

Another one blaming the electorate for being 'stupid' rather than the candidate for being unappealing (to enough).

All the while people sneer and call others exercising their democratic right 'stupid' if it the outcome doesn't happen to tally with their own view, the more this happens.

So in that scenario, you have to wonder who the stupid ones really are.

(And I write this as someone who 100% wanted Harris to win but I'm not ready to call those who think differently 'stupid')

The frustrating thing is that it's been fixed. Unemployment and inflation are both low right now. Interest rates are coming down. The fed seems to have pulled off a "soft landing". To Trump's credit, the Fed chair was appointed by Trump. He could even have claimed (some) credit for the recovery, but that would mean admitting that there isn't really a problem anymore.

The problem is that people don't understand inflation. They expect prices to go back to what they were, and that's not going to happen. That's not how inflation works. And Trump isn't going to bring prices down either. If he goes ahead with his tariffs, prices are going to shot up.

The post-pandemic inflation was global, not confined to the US, and US wasn't hit nearly as badly as some other places.
