Shock, horror…

Not a great thing. But you can't blame him really, is there any point in standing up for the rule of law and so on when the country has chosen the other guy who would issue a pardon like this to his own family without a second thought. In the end, Biden is just doing what the country has voted for.

Is anyone else surprised that the ability to pardon someone is still around in this day and age.

Sure it is hard for a political party to stand for law and order if their leader is willing and able to bypass the whole system and get people off at will?

Does this still happen in the UK? Apart from miscarriages of justice of course.

The Royal Prerogative of Mercy is still part of British law that can change sentences (not quash convictions) - Adam Turing was officially pardoned posthumously and the guy that saved members of the public on the bridge terrorist attack had his minimum sentence reduced further by Royal prerogative but it’s rarely used.
