Thanks - appreciate it - still weird you managed to quote it though when I had already deleted it much longer than 9 minutes ago! šŸ¤”
Yes. Thatā€™s entirely my fault. Moderator functionality enables visibility of deleted posts. I didnā€™t realise I had that functionality activated at that time. Your post isnā€™t visible on the Board.

My fault. Apologies. Have a peaceful evening.

No, America genuinely wants what Trumpā€™s selling. The consensus in the US is currently that it was a mistake to allow manufacturing expertise to dwindle and to outsource decently paying jobs to other countries. Trump wants those jobs and tax receipts (and that expertise) back.

He will implement tariffs to whatever degree is required to make ā€œAmerica madeā€ competitive in the domestic market.

Immigration has been a political football for over a decade, and thereā€™s no doubt that Trumpā€™s lot have weaponised it, but again most of America doesnā€™t want people traffickers and cross-border drugs operations getting in and out unchallenged. Trumpā€™s rhetoric on this has been vile in places, but the underlying idea of ā€œcontrol your bordersā€ has widespread support across the political spectrum.

Trumpā€™s message was ā€œfix the borders and bring the jobs home, and we can have nice things again.ā€

Harrisā€™s was largely ā€œdonā€™t elect a misogynistic bullshitter.ā€

Only one of those two offered a vision for the future. People decided they were willing to put up with some misogynistic bullshit in return for a potentially better future.
I agree with your post but ''some misogynistic bullshit' rather understates what they need to put up with given the list posted earlier.

But these thing are obviously less important to the electorate then I assumed.

Let's hope it's worth it.

Hopefully the Democratic Party have already begun their inquest into why their candidate performed significantly worse than Biden did four years ago - and are wiling to learn lessons.
Gender reassignment? They had better get in quick, Trumpy won't hold with all that woke bullshit.

ā€œKamala Harris, as a woman, was representing a breakthrough from the glass ceiling and she was also leaning in to her heritage as an African American in this country, but she didnā€™t put out any policies to address the systemic issues for African Americans."
ā€œShe didnā€™t say the exact things I wanted to hear, so I voted for the guy who is almost certainly going to screw me over personally instead.ā€

The more I read, the more I think the American public thoroughly deserves the absolute butt-f***ing theyā€™re going to receive over the next four years. Itā€™s just a shame we get it without consent as well.

Yep.

So he now has the vote, the popular vote, congress and the senate. Let him now deliver, unrestrained by the various forces of inertia that normally stymie a president.

I am going out on a limb here but I don't think a majority of US voters are stupid. They are unashamedly self-interested. They see their self interest being best met by Trump.

So he will have to deliver......

Interesting times.
I'm not sure he will 'have to deliver'. What happens to him if he doesn't? He won't get in again in four year's time - but if he doesn't change the legislation he wouldn't be running again anyway. He's not bothered about delivering - he just wants to stay out of jail.

He's basically got away with everything - and he'll be totally unpunished for all his crimes and misdemeanors.

Like the 'undecided' woman quoted on here a few years ago whose husband/partner was an undocumented immigrant. The very people who are going to be deported (if it's not just bluster).

Well, it all went downhill from Maitliss giving that kunnt Johnson (he's got a book out don't you know) a rough ride.

Yeah, we're not perfect when it comes to elections but this one takes the biscuit.

I'm putting this thread on ignore now. My final contribution might be a repeat of something but I can't face catching up fully.

May god have mercy on our souls/aresholes whatever.

Honestly Iā€™ve rarely seen a tweet which has remained so relevant for so very, very long

I pray he goes to jail at some point before he dies.

I thought the uk rejected the offer made by Trump late 2020 as it would have killed the airbus business in the UK. Truss apparently made the decision on officials advice
There was no offer as such, there was only a few rounds of negotiations (youā€™d expect 10+ for a deal of this size). It had hit a few red lines (including the one you reference) but it was Biden who effectively suspended talks. Technically they were never suspended so weā€™ve been in negotiations ever since, on paper.

I donā€™t think thereā€™s anyone on this thread unaware of Trumpā€™s history, as pointed out elsewhere. I just think that the voters of America voted Trump despite that side of him, not because of it. Attempting to paint a majority of the US electorate as ā€œpro-sexual assaultā€ is clearly a nonsense.

But these thing are obviously less important to the electorate then I assumed.

Yup, I initially thought he didnā€™t have a snowball in hellā€™s chance. For a country with so many who call themselves Christians, thereā€™s a massive vacuum where a moral compass should be.

Let's hope it's worth it.

Well, heā€™s won the election, which helps him stay out of jail and close down cases against him. So for Trump itā€™s 100% worth it. As to whether he delivers on anything he talked about while campaigning, it remains to be seen how much gets turned into action.

Especially with the US supreme court ruling that he has immunity for official acts taken as president, America effectively has its first king, which is almost funny if you have a particularly black sense of humour.

True. Generally speaking, you reap what you sow. A people get the elected politicians they deserve. Their country, their choice...as it were.

As for Britain, if you choose to leave your closest support group and remain with an unstable partner in an unequal relationship, these things can happen.

No surprises today, the world needed this big time, it great to see that the Americans have still got some gonads.
It just needs to fully dawn on us in the UK, what a massive mistake was made by the unnamed 34% when voting in the hypocritical liebour.
I might treat myself to some Ben and Jerry's tonight, and let next doors cat lick my pot.

What are the policies Trump has outlined that you think will particularly benefit the people of the United States? And the world as a whole?

Genuinly interested in your reasons for supporting him.
