I don’t agree. I am a fan of Biden but I don’t think he’s really listening to Russia, and all he’s it doing is making threats. What exactly do you mean by stepping up to the plate? Start listening? Or make even more threats.

What can Germany & France do exactly?

This isn't Libya

Where they can attack undefended positions in state of the art fighter planes

No,this is the Ukraine,if there is war,it will be a dirty one
And not one German or French soldier will step foot in the Ukraine

And Putin knows that

If diplomacy fails, then the only deterrent is American troops deployed inside the Ukraine
Persuading Biden to do this would be a tough ask and I can't see it happening

I wonder how many NSCers have actually spent any time in Russia as Mrs Jakarta and I did few years back.

They have a totally different world view to the West, fed by their, shall we say, less than even handed media.

For example the Great Patriotic War lasted from 1941 to 1945, conveniently forgetting their alliance with Nazi Germany from 1939 to 1941.

Our Moscow Tour Guide told us 'we are surrounded by other countries who do not like us'.

I should have come back with that's because you periodically invade them and slaughter their people but I was on holiday at the time and didn't want to dampen the mood...

Putin is close to showing the world what a mad man he is.

The Iran/North Korean level sanctions will destroy his economy.

He needs a lot of his wealth to keep those that keep him in power onside. Seizing all his Oligarchs' wealth in Europe and the US will pull the rug from under his regime.

He'll have very few friends - and appears to be on the brink of a mad strategy that will end up destroying him - after 100s of thousands die because of him.
I would hope part of the sanctions would include sending back the few thousand Russian kids, of the Russian elite no doubt, being educated at our public schools paid for by their corrupt Money

Rumblings from the Russians that they are willing to counter-attack in advance if they think Ukrainians bottle out of invading Russia.

no one outside Russia would believe it. im not even sure the Russians would, if they are supposed to be peacfully uniting with Ukraine brothers, they wouldnt be invading Russia.

increasingly believe this all a charade, Russia main objective to keep Ukraine out the west by destablising is working.

One of the Russian junior ministers was on Russian TV explaining that if " ethnic " Russians in Ukraine were attacked by Ukrainians, Russia would have a " duty " to invade and protect them. They would believe that. Really handy that they have 100,000 troops with full equipment at the bottom of the road who just happened to be in the area.

If things don't go Putin's way, and the invasion and sanctions are disastrous, he wouldn't be mad enough to press the Nuke button :mad: ?

The Ukraine also used the term "The Great Patriotic War" up until 2015. They then officially decided to cease using it and replaced it with "Second World War".

Embarrassing isn’t it? That said, I don’t think the Russians, or the Ukrainians for that matter, are taking too much interest in Britain in all of this.

You're right, but we are still a nuclear power and one of the 5 permanent UN Security Council members. We as a country pay an absolute fortune for nuclear weapons and you have to wonder what the hell for. We used to punch above our weight, now I would argue after Brexit we are punching below our weight.

Exactly the same excuse the Nazis used when invading Czechoslovakia and Poland in 39.

What can France do? They seem to be able to negotiate, and negotiate with more wit and intelligence, than the others. To date they seen the only credible party on this matter in my opinion.

West is BEST
This won't end with sanctions on Russia. If Putin has his pants pulled down then this could rapidly escalate to nuclear threat.

So Russia recognises the Luhansk and Donesk Republics today, then FALSE FLAGs a Ukrainian attack on them, and the Russian tanks roll tonight.

A bad miscalculation by mad man Putin and the sanctions will see him ended.
