I mean, I’m so unfit I struggle to get up the steps to the West Upper without keeling over. I wouldn’t last 5 minutes on the steppes.

I am handy with a spreadsheet though 🤔
Don’t under-value your skill. The right pivot table could make all the difference at the right moment.

Energy costs are high because of businesses screwing over the country.

Trump is not tariff free. The one tool used to counter this is creating a trading block approach (EU anyone?)

The rest makes even less sense. Where do you get this bollocks from? Maybe thicker tinfoil?
Sure, but then energy companies are being screwed over on windfall taxes and so the cycle goes on.

It’s straightforward, there needs to be cheaper energy, especially for industry. As it is we are de instrialising which is great for net zero but not if we are rearming.

The EU is a protectionist block, which Trump is going to go after, so we have a choice, row in with the EU, row in with the US or given our relatively small levels of industrial exports and high services industry try and stay neutral.

If you think we cannot save money by cutting foreign aid or other whimsical expenditure it’s you that are in the tin foil hat, perhaps it should be one of those shirts with extra long arms.

We would have been cost neutral if the Tories hadn’t scrapped the wind farm initiative.

All trading blocks are protectionist and are in place to counteract people like trump. We have nothing to offer trump other than something for him to raid so it needs to be the EU.

Yes you can save on foreign aid but I suspect a lot of our foreign aid is already going to Ukraine.

Building wind farms on land and sea means you are loading up the up front implementation/logistical costs before you even get to the energy costs. Even then, for the foreseeable all energy prices are hooked to the global gas prices. In this way it’s double bubble for companies and consumers in the U.K. as we pay the costs of introducing new energy sources but still pay rates linked to gas. We both know how we can reduce energy costs…………the infrastructure already exists.

We are not the major European exporting nation Trump has in his sights, we can pretend we are, sounds like you want to get involved. Trump has already indicated there is a deal for us, as there was last time he was POTUS.

I suspect like the US we find many different ways to spend taxpayers money. With Trump making it clear we have to pay much more for defence we can either do that and cut any spend not for benefit of U.K. taxpayers or step back from these geo political issues and complete the dis-arming process.

The UN and NATO are defunct in my opinion too.
It's either fight Russia in Ukraine, or fight them in eu countries in 12 months.
Some where much earlier in this thread I posted that if NATO/Europe had put boots on the ground day one to push back the Russians then this would have been over by now and Ukraine would not be occupied. Sadly NATO and Europe ran away from the problem.

Bloody hell. Full on Trumpy are we not.

I’ve spent all my life in engineering and manufacturing. Any company or country that does not invest in future technologies is doomed to fail. Investing in new energies is essential and being self sufficient is a must in the present climate.

Trump has proven that he cannot be trusted and the he lies or changes his mind at a moments notice. He views everything as an opportunity to make money at someone else’s expense. The deal he offered last time was dependent on the US medical insurance companies being given ‘access’ to the NHS. Something that even Boris thought was reprehensible and refused to even consider.

Trump is an idiot and you are for thinking he has your best interest at heart.

I agree with this bit.

Ukraine, like most of Europe and parts of Russia, would be a nuclear fallout zone. Ukraine would not be occupied at all other than the some poor radioactive people slowly dying.

Trump wants to resurrect the rare earths deal with Zelensky, and has made an unspecified threat on what will happen if Zelensky doesn't sign.

Yes. Really.
What a bizarre thing to contemplate. A possible peace in Ukraine is being negotiated on how much money Trump will make rather than the interests of the Ukrainian people, European people or even Russian people at this point!

Contemptible is it not. He’s proving that he’s not to be trusted which means people will not deal with him. I suspect that in private many of the leaders are starting to laugh at his stupidity. He fully expected Zelensky to cave in and most probably can’t understand why he hasn’t.
He’s gone through the whole remit of a teenager trying to get his way. He’ll shortly be at the ‘I hate you and running to his bedroom’ stage.

He will threaten to arm Russia, or deal with Russia on Donbas rare earths.
The US has loads laws in place that would prevent that. The US weapons industry most certainly don’t want there kit in Russian hands, it would effectively be seen as giving away their military advantage.

I wonder if he’ll lose interest soon?

It seems that most MAGA voters have very little concern what goes on outside America. I wonder if he’ll just give up and start chatting shit about something else like he seems to have done with Gaza once he destabilised the peace and the region with his nonsense.
