WTF? Remind us exactly what Cole did - didn't he just say that he didn't think Terry was racist?

I was merely suggesting that from the perspective of someone who wanted Cole to support Ferdinand because they're both black, Cole's actions could be seen as racially divisive, because he broke ranks with Ferdinand.

Just to be very clear, this narrow perspective (one that appears to condone lying in a court of law) is NOT a perspective I am endorsing.

I find it amazing that the usual suspects who normally find any form of bigotry in a comment can't seem to find it here. How strange.

Er, right. To be honest, that's so left field it's not worth saying. That's as crazy as saying Anton is racist for letting this case happen, as it's been racially divisive.

Not really. It shows that anyone can paint another side as 'racially divisive'. From Rio Ferdinand's view, it may look convincingly like Cole is being racially divisive. From another perspective, it is Rio Ferdinand's tweet that appears to be racially divisive.

No it doesn't show that. Cole saying the truth in court is not racially divisive. No one can paint it as so. People can talk shit, sure, but that's another matter.

It's nothing to do with being 'mixed race'. It's suggesting that he is 'black on the outside, but White on the inside'.

Years ago I worked with a bloke who was a driver for the Polish embassy in London in the 70's The ambassador used to joke that the Poles were Radishes because they were red on the outside but white on the inside.

I believe Cole was a (presumably now former) friend of the Ferdinand family and assume they were expecting him to offer some form of support. The frustrating thing for me is despite all the cameras in the ground that day only one camera caught most and not all of what was said. If we"d been able to see everything that was said, this would have been done and dusted a long time ago.

Quite a sophisticated way to make a borderline racist comment. Maybe Terry should take notes?

Bit of a weird stance for Ferdinand to take anyway.

Cole is of mixed race, with one white and one black parent. As are the Ferdinands.

Bizarre.

I don't see it this way. It's very insulting, has a black/white cultural basis but not racist in my opinion.
This post genuinely reminded me of the " comical ali " character who gave the press briefings for saddam hussein when the allies invaded Iraq, it really is that ridiculous, you're plainly not stupid, but you're making yourself sound extremely so by trying to deny this isn't a racist insult.

To summise, I think we can ascertain that Anton, Rio, Ashley, John and Sylvain are prunes of the highest order, whom believe themselves to be thoroughly important.

Football seems to have a higher amount of pricks than most industries (along with Bankers, Politicians, Postmen, Miners, Council Workers, Police, Supermarket executives, IT Geeks, Recruitment Agents (just for you Frank), Traffic Enforcement Officers).

At the very least, I think Rio's call for racial loyalty is misguided. I also agree that, generally, calls for racial loyalty are often driven by racism. However, there is nothing in the tweet that suggests any more than the short-sighted view that 'white people should stick up for white people, black people should stick up for black people.'

Depends how you look at it. From a different perspective, Cole's actions were racially divisive and Ferdinand merely called him to account for it.

(Personally, I think this stuff about being loyal to one's own race is over-valued. Cole needed to call it as he saw it, not show loyalty to Terry because he's his team-mate, and not to act out of loyalty to Ferdinand because the pigment of his skin happens to be similar).

Rio's perespective on this is that Cole hasn't called it as he has seen it and has acted out of loyalty to him mate. This means (in Rio's view) that he has allowed racism to remain in the game and not stood up for his fellow black people to fight racism, rather stood up to the racist. I don't like the inference that all white people are racist but can understand where he is coming from. Maybe he reaslised this inference later and deleted his comment accordingly.

This is all based on Rio's assumption of Terry's guilt and Cole's knowledge of his guilt all of which I am not sure we will ever know as the evidence is inconclusive.

Until he thought about it and deleted it.

Did he delete it as he didn't agree with it or did he think he was going to end up in hot water?

Either way, what is clear is that there are plenty of pricks fanning the flames. I'm sure Rio has slung some equally insensitive bile around on the football field.

Agreed. Trying to follow Rio's thought processes is based on the huge assumumption that he has some.
