Poyet to Wolves

I love this thread as it completely disregards everything that Gus has said about having his special masterplan here at Brighton. There is no way in a gazillion years would Poyet leave, or need to leave Brighton to go to Wolves.

Wolves' manager will be either TC or someone from League 1

Great! I hope he goes quickly and the next manager gets the whole summer to build a squad capable of promotion next year.

I did not like him much before yesterday, after his "end of season" acknowledgement of the fans who had gone all that way for an early kick-off match yesterday, he can't go quickly enough for me!

I genuinely cannot believe attitudes like this. How many clubs have fans slating a manager who has taken them from bottom four in League 1 to 10th in the Championship in 2 and a half years?

For me, as I said in another thread, a lot depends on the budget Gus is given for the season. If he gets the budget he wants (or close to it) in order to progress then he will stay and Wolves won't even be considered. However, if he is limited again next season then I am sure he would consider Wolves and maybe even go there.

I realise it wouldn't be the end of the world but I would be gutted. We have a bottom half budget in this league at the moment (whatever some people may think) and he has massively over achieved this season. Given a competitive budget, I am confident we will be challenging for the top 6 next year and trust Gus to bring in the right players. He has had a year managing at this level and now knows what is needed. A new manager would have to start again and reevaluate the squad, which would put us a year behind.

He says a lot, but for over a quarter of a season has now failed miserably to deliver anything better than relegation form!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy needs to shut his mouth, put his brain in gear, and get on with the job the Club are paying him to do!

I'd happily take curbishley from that list if Gus went.

When did Curbishley last manage? Who says he wants to get back into football? If he does, he has been out of the game for ages and there is no guarantee he would be a good choice.

If he did go, I would be tempted to go for someone from the lower leagues e.g. Karl Robinson if MK don't go up from the play offs but I really hope he stays.

Very much with this-gutted and devastated would be words of the understated if he went,it's the long term Gus is talking about and i would like to think he is a man of honour-and would want a job well done and finished-

As I have pointed out on another post, Brighton and Hove Albion will NEVER have the money to get the players needed to play the way Gus wants to. His refusal to show some pragmatism and play football that is affordable within his budget, is his problem. We should get rid asap.

For all of you with short memories, what happened to the manager who took us to our highest league position ever? Let me remind you - Mike Bailey was sacked because the fans would not support him and his dire boring football.

I know this is all about opinions, but your ingratitude, lack of appreciation, and mypoia are appalling.

Go and support Crawley Town - they're about the limit of your ambition. They play the regressive, out-of-date English football that has caused such embarrassment to the national team for the past 30 years. You'll love it.

and he has turned Swindon from complete losers into Champions....

He is passionate about his job..

His daughter is at Southampton Uni ( he has said he wants to stay in the South) so if Gus goes I would be delighted to see Di Canio at out place..

Clear enough?

Yep. And somewhat meaningless.

You'd like an even less experienced manager with excessive instability to take over a Championship side?

This.

But for me personally, rather than the prospect of being less successful under another manager, I would be more gutted to not play the Gus style of football anymore. We really do aspire to play like Barcelona and it's stupidly ambitious but equally incredible and amazing to watch when it works.

How many goals do they score? How many do the players we can afford, or are ever likely to afford for that matter, manage to score playing boring tippy-tappy football? I hate it, and cannot wait to get back to playing English style football, with the type of players our new-found wealth could buy.

As long as he takes Painter Dicker and CMS with him, won`t be that big a loss

What nonsense.

This is the man who saved us from relegation to the bottom division then turned us into Champions, playing some of the best football the third tier of English football has EVER known when Claridge et al said you couldn't play a passing game in the 3rd division. Oh yeah? This is the man who managed a top 10 finish in the Championship, our highest finish for 20 years. This is the man who's recognsied as being one of the best young coaches and has transformed players like Adam El Abd, who had been previously been written off. The fact that he's also a big "name" means he can attract players who would have never even heard of Brighton let alone play for them, Vicente? And he's young and will get better.

And you say he won't be a big loss?

We've all moved on now, and are a lot more mature. At least I thought that was the case until I read your post.

You know if Gus did go its not the end of the world.

I love how we play football, and love that Gus aspires to a style of play seldom seen in England.

That being said its very difficult to do, and when it doesn't work it looks awful and we get walloped.

Perhaps to succeed we need to play a little more directly, and less tippy tappy?

Works for Saints.

Ok, to follow your opinion to the extreme, we need to sack Gus and appoint Ron Atkinson or Aidy Boothroyd, get in big players with no skill and lump it up to our massive forwards not bothering with the midfield at all. I will look forward to that.

On the other side, this system or similar worked for Swansea and has done them well in the Premier League and they haven't over spent. Gus has got to be given a competitive budget (I am not saying like West Ham or Leicester) and he will hopefully be able to bring the players he needs in. He has had a successful season at this level and now knows what else he needs for next year. We will see who he brings in but I am confident with the ground expansion and money we made from cup ties this year, that Tony Bloom will give Gus the money he needs and Gus will go out and use it well.

he left west ham 3 1/2 years ago. He took Charlton to 4 or 5 top half finishes in the prem and i think he took west ham to 7th or 8th in the prem playing pretty good football. Plus Brighton connections and i would guess lives in the south east.
There is no guarantee anyone would be a good choice.......Im just saying if Gus went (which i hope he doesnt) and if Curbishly ended up our manager i would be happy.

Come on fat boy! I have supported the Albion all my life, and there is no chance of supporting anyone else. Where I live I have a massive choice, and Crawley would not even be a consideration. I will support them (god willing) long after Poyet has gone.

What he do? Or didn't do more to the point? I wasn't there yesterday, so intrigued into knowing what your comment means

Interesting parallels with the 1981/82 season - our highest league position but one that ended with a whimper (7 points out of a possible 36). The poor run continued in the next season when Bailey got the chop. Will history be repeating? Hope not.

Poyet has done a great job in his time with us. I'm sure he can find the quality players to play the football he wants. Every season has been one of progress.
